#calling cards

I challenged myself to only create new words by re-arranging the letters of one word. The only exception were the twins' names. These were the new words I made:

This project started out as 'what if I write poetry about Dante using a pizza article lol' and I didn't once lol or lmao making it. I suffered. I went through the damn article with a fine toothed comb and extracted the ever living poetic words out of it. And I wrote two poems. But I didn't like them, they weren't working for me. The whole process felt like trying to build a sand castle with ten grains of sand. In a thunderstorm.

I spent so long on this even google was like 'dude are u ok'.

sigh Yes, google. I know I visit often.

“You are well aware that I am not a man of the cloth and may not absolve you, so you must proceed with the confidence that my judgment would not be severe, should I choose to render it,” he said.

“You would tease me, but I am serious,” she replied.

“If you are serious, I shall not dare to tease you again, madam. What would you tell me?”

“All the time I lived at Longbourn and when we were at Pemberley, I thought calling cards were a tremendous affectation, twice as silly as the silliest mob-cap, and that anyone who would say they were not at home when they were sitting cozily in their library was the epitome of pomposity,” she said.

“And now?”

“And now, I know myself to have been the greatest fool, for the tray is overflowing with cards and we have at least three invitations for any hour of any day, teas and routs and Venetian breakfasts when I have yet to divine the characteristic that confers any salient reference to Venice or breakfast,” she said brightly, but he could hear her consternation and distress concealed within her humor.

“It is not bad thing to discover you were mistaken. Nor that Mrs. Darcy of Pemberley is much in demand,” he said. “I agree a Venetian breakfast remains a mystery, unless there is risi e bisi served alongside bread and butter.”

“But how shall we decide who to see?” Elizabeth said, leafing through the pile of calling cards.

“Is there anyone you recognize who you’d like to see?” he replied.

“There’s a card from Mrs. George Knightley,” she said. “She is quite good humored and amiable—”

“Then we shall call upon her and after I shall take you for a ride through the park in the barouche in lieu of a walk through the countryside,” he said.

“I’ve only to do what I like? That doesn’t seem proper—surely I will offend someone important,” she said.

“All London is not like my Aunt Catherine, Elizabeth. And you had little trouble letting her know how you felt about her perspective,” he said.

“You were more important that a Venetian breakfast, Fitzwilliam!” 

“I should hope so,” he replied. “Though the one tomorrow is hosted by a duchess.”

“Prinny himself might host and it would not come to account,” she replied.

“And for that, we’ll stop at Gunter’s for ices before we return here and are very definitely not at home for anyone,” he said. 

Besides the obvious “boyfriendoftheyear” behavior like guiding you towards the inside of the sidewalk as you walk hand in hand towards a movie at your local theatre, or holding the door open for you at your fav bar to watch a cool little local band play a gig, he always makes sure to carry a handkerchief in his jean pocket that he infuses with a few drops of lavender essential oil. He once read in a woman’s weekly it’s supposed to help with nerves and it was meant to be an old housewives trick but it seems to mean a lot to you and anything for his girl of course.

When you guys go out to eat, he takes it upon himself to order for you, per your request. He has a good feel for your taste, and cravings and he’s never ordered a dish you don’t like. He’ll even make sure to call ahead and tell the hostess about any allergies or dietary restrictions you might have. To everyone in his life his attitude since you’ve gotten together is a great departure from the usual nonchalant smart ass they know and occasionally love, but doting and caring looks good on him.

You’ll always feel like he’s got your back and is ready to advocate for you. Whether it’s asking a waiter to top off your drink or to have a dish remade because it wasn’t up to your standards, he’s always ready and willing to keep you as chill as possible. On really really bad days, the ones where you feel like the world is caving in around you and you can’t see the end in sight, after he helps you meet your most basic needs, a warm bath, a small plate with some fruits, some chips, dip and maybe some cheeses, (an act he adopted from his dad do the same for his mom when she was pregnant with him.) He’ll have you pop on your (his) favorite comfy crewneck, pop you on the back of his bike, and pedal down the block and back as the sun sets. The cool air and the rhythm of the pedals going up and down your street littered with gorgeous trees and even more gorgeous gardens soothes your mind in an instant.

Sometimes he’ll whistle a little tune for you, his favorite is the Charlie Brown theme song, sometimes he’ll ask about your day and let you vent or sometimes he won’t say anything at all and let you regulate at your own pace. But always, your nights end with the coziest cuddle with all the lights in your room turned off, only a sliver of a street light peeking through your curtain. He’ll trace his fingers across your features and leave whispers of kisses and sweet nothings behind as the both of you are lulled to sleep……so basically he’s a cutie pie.
