⚡️ DEADLINE MONDAY JUNE 24! ⚡️ BIG INK is visiting the @caccolumbus in Columbus, OH. CAC is opening their doors for a two-day event where large-scale woodblock plates will be printed on BIG INK's giant mobile etching press "The Big Tuna." BIG INK is seeking image proposals from artists who would like to carve a woodblock, at least 24" x 36" inches in dimension, to print at the event. Our program is geared towards all experience levels. Artists who wish to achieve a deeper understanding of printmaking are welcome to apply. Participants gain a greater sense of scale and produce ambitious work all while having the support and encouragement of their peers. Artists must first submit an image proposal for consideration. Those selected will have two months prior to the event to carve their woodblock design. Each artist brings a fully carved and ready to print woodblock on their assigned printing day. As a group, we work together to print each artist's woodblock during a public demonstration. All consumable materials including paper, ink, cleaning supplies, equipment, and photography of the finished work are included with participation. Participants are guided through the entire process by BIG INK. We provide a robust educational series which includes over 70 minutes of video instruction. BIG INK provides recommendations on pricing and exhibiting your finished work. We make ourselves available through phone and email if artists have questions. FINAL WEEK TO SUBMIT A PROPOSAL! @biginkprints is coming to Pittsburgh, PA. We’ve partnered with @airpgh for two days of large-scale printing on Sept 22nd & 23rd. Artists are invited to submit a proposal by July 16th to print a big woodblock during the event! Artists Image Resources (AIR) is an artist-run, non-profit print and imaging organization that serves as a laboratory for artists, educators, and the community. AIR’s mission is to integrate the creation of fine art prints with educational programs that explore the role of the artist in contemporary culture. We will be utilizing BIG INK's giant mobile etching press to pull prints up to 40” x 96” in dimension. Those accepted will have two months prior to the event to carve their image into a piece of plywood. BIG INK events are a constructive way to collaborate in a creatively inspiring space while gaining an in-depth knowledge of how to create a large-scale woodblock print. The program is designed for printmakers who understand basic woodblock principles but want to expand their expertise and working scale. The program is also designed for those not yet trained in woodblock but whose visual aesthetic would lend itself to the medium. This includes illustrators, sculptors, designers, and painters who use bold contrast, strong outlines, and patterning. Participating in an event often inspires artists to incorporate more print work in their studio practice. It is free to submit a proposal; accepted artists pay $295 dollars to participate.
