Call Waiting playlist
I went to make a post for my Long Song of Fate playlist and realized I don’t think I ever posted about my little playlist for Call Waiting so
It’s mostly from 2 albums--Gabriel Kahane’s The Ambassador and John Zorn & the Gnostic Trio’s Gnostic Preludes. The Ambassador inspired the cover art for Call Waiting (with the composition of its own cover art) and the opening track inspired the opening scene; “I try to calculate the anguish and the anger and all the aspirations/ of the millions who have lived here and will live in desperation/ who are careful and are careless, whom I have cheated/who thought the swindle that I offered was a song” has become a critical DT lyric to this day. “Bradbury” was more of a musical/vibe influence and so was “Aja” (my brother and I went on a massive Aja kick over the summer, there’s some art of mine linked to it somewhere around here too), and the Preludes, being instrumental, were of course the same, BUT if any one album puts me squarely in DT’s pov mindset it’s that one. Pretty, dreamlike, seductive, but utterly mathematical and precise.
