So, I actually had something new I could share! But missed Wednesday and Thursday is all work, so I'm late, but here's a snippet!
Set in Caleb Shepard's post-Reaper War universe... part of the prologue to his post war story, Ag Teacht Abhaile, or Coming Home. For those who know me and my boy, Caleb - If that doesn't give you an idea what the fic is about, I don't know what will lol.

There is an old saying, Karma is a bitch. But today, Karma is on her side.
It’s a fluke, really.Â
By all rights, she shouldn’t be here. Martial law, restrictions in and out of the city, too many starving, homeless people and not enough of any of it to go around. They all survived the war, but at what cost? The galaxy might be free of the Reapers, but there’s another war taking its place, filling the vacuum left behind. A war of survival.Â
And if there’s nothing else she’s figured out over the years, it’s that she’s a survivor.
The old tunnel beneath the Shannon that served them well in days long gone is still there, though few who once knew of it remain. Killed when the Reapers arrived. Turned into horrid Reaper husks. Sick or injured or left behind when those who could fled to the countryside for the duration. And even then, many were killed later by Reaper patrols as they spread outward from the cities.Â
But not her. She’d made it through a gang war, through the first occupation by the Greystones, she wasn’t going to give up just because a bunch of giant bugs were bent on galactic domination.

Being the son of Commander Shepard isn’t easy. Even when the commander himself plays it down, preferring anonymity after the war and, as it turns out, for good reason. The name “Shepard” has become synonymous with “savior” in the awe-filled voices of young child or adult. It’s a tough act to follow, no doubt about it.
Tadhg Shepard-Alenko has spent most of his young life willing to give it a shot, however. Defiance in the face of adversity. Relentlessness in the face of uncertainty. And when all else fails, falling back on good old Irish stubbornness. He's had years to hone his skills and far too many adventures that required it. Still, he likes to think he's made Daidi proud, and if he’s ever in doubt, Papa is quick to reassure him. Who else would know better?
But now, standing alone in the middle of the conference room at ICT, a moment of doubt pokes at him. Every other adventure, he’s let both his fathers and his sister know; the struggles, the battles, the refusal to give in or up. Up to this point in his life, Daidi and Papa have been there with as much or as little support as he’s wanted or needed. This time...this time, he’s kept it all a secret, and it’s only now, just as he’s about to take that last step, that he isn’t quite sure how that’s going to go over when they find out. There's very little he's kept hidden over the years from his fathers, especially Daidi, and the one time he tried, well, there had been fences to mend afterward. Not his best moment, to be sure, and lessons had been learned...

I started this piece two years ago for N7 Day but never got it finished. For some reason, it poked at me about a half hour ago screaming to be finished. And just in time for N7 Day 2025! Happy N7 Day!

Aye, when my adoptive parents were alive. The Reds and I did, too, before things.. happened.

Define "messed up". I was adopted, pretty lucky there. Then the Reds watched out for me after Ned and Nan were gone. Athair put me in touch with Anderson who literally saved my life convincing me to enlist with the Alliance. Not typical, no, but not exactly 'messed up', either.
