What Remains - Chapter 5
Caleb had always been a pretty good cook, but Anna was fairly sure he only put the effort out when he had someone else to cook for. A memory of visiting him during his time in the Coast Guard came to the front of her mind — He had cooked for her often during her stay, but they’d gone grocery shopping shortly after she arrived, and when she’d opened his refrigerator to put everything away, there had been a jar of pickles, half of a six pack of beer, and one (1) egg inside. Though his offer to have her become his roommate had come at an opportune time for her, part of Anna felt like it was a good thing she was there for Caleb’s sake, as well, because it meant she could look after him a little. He was a grown man who could take care of himself, but she knew that just because he could did not mean he would. She’d seen how easily he could drift into not taking care of himself…
