i loved the books series Tunnels as a wee preteen and am now in the process of reading it and oh my god? these books were so intense? just in deeper there’s mass executions of coprolites by firing squad, state-funded breeding centers for coprolites? the humanoid specimens dissected and preserved in jars that are blown up in a later scene and strewn across the floor ‘like fish’? humans covered in boils suffering from experimental viruses screaming to be let out of their cells? not to mention the other stuff i remember faintly from the later books, like everything to do with Martha. no wonder these books permanently altered my brain chemistry. macrodosing on horror through my middle grade novels at age ten…Â
