These ovenbirds are found in forests and open woodlands in parts of Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay, Brazil, and Argentina. Foraging mostly on the ground in pairs or small flocks, they eat insects, as well as some birds’ eggs and fruit. They build bulky stick nests with entrance tubes on horizontal branches in small trees or scrub. Females lay two to four eggs. Both parents incubate the eggs and feed the chicks.

Las olas férvidas, brillantes, guiñaban al mediodía, corriendo cada vez más cerca de tierra. El cachalote, tras resoplar, se sumergió hondo; hincó su enorme testa en el agua; complacido con la corriente tibia, gruesa de sal, suave, desató su mente, dejándose llevar por mil ideas. No ser ni delfín, ni calderón, sino cachalote, le hace el más feliz del mundo, piensa. ¡Ah, no hay como el presente! El cetáceo no contempla más allá. Siempre gusta el apogeo de su existencia; no da en hipótesis, no entra en metafísicas. Ebria de un marasmo de ideas, la ballena siente la tierra ignota cada vez más cerca, y está entre asustada y exultante. Boya otra vez y surte al cielo de mayo su pujante chorro, como un arcoíris. En el puerto de Ayukawa, de la península de Ojika, tocan la sirena... pero el formidable optimista no tiene de ello la menor conciencia.
