As a younger reader, or on your first read-through of the Artemis Fowl books, were you aware/did you figure out that the word Caballine just means "relating to horses"?
Yes, I knew immediately
I figured it out later somehow
I had no idea until I saw this poll

If you knew, or figured it out, tell me how - was the word, in English, already part of your vocabulary? Is your first language Spanish, Italian, or similar? Did you study Latin and then it twigged? Did you google it??? etc etc etc
Caballine: So, Foalyβs a sleep talker.
Holly: Yeah?
Caballine: βMitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell.β Right in my ear. 2 A.M..
Foaly: If poison goes bad, is it more or less poisonous?
Caballine: Please just go to sleep.

So we know what Artemis is like when he gets sick - but how is Holly when she's sick?! And do the gang take care of her?
π
Foaly: Holly takes sickness like a man... by which I mean, she does not take it very well. Lots of moaning and complaining, and most of all, lots of clinging.
Caballine: I would say she behaves more like a child than a man. When she's ill, Holly allows herself to rely on others more. She lets herself say what she really wants. Also, I think at those times she misses her mother, and that comes out in her behavior.
Artemis: I've only been around Holly once when she was sick, during a sabbatical in Greece. We both ended up bedridden, as she attached herself to me early on, and I had neither the heart nor strength to extricate her. I can only be thankful that fairy illnesses aren't contagious to humans.
(Lazuli: She still asks for Artemis when she's sick. When I asked why, she mumbled something about him being a living ice pack.)
The word caballine just means 'of, or pertaining to, a horse'.
Sometimes I randomly remember that Caballine means 'pertaining to a horse' and wonder if Eoin expected anybody to know that...
