kurdistana sor [red kurdistan or kurdistanskey uyezd] was a soviet administrative unit that existed for six years – 1923 to 1929 – until it was succeeded by the kurdistan okrug which lasted for a couple of months in 1930. the capital of kurdistana sor was laçîn until it moved to şûşa. the official language of kurdistana sor was kurmancî.
this district consisted of mostly kurds and azeris until the nagorno-karabakh war [1990s-] where armenia attempted to take back historical land – a pogrom occurred in the early 1920s against armenians which drastically reduced its population.
since then, almost all kurds still living in this area had either been assimilated into azeri linguistic culture or forced out because of the nagorno-karabakh war.
