Why do I feel it was poorly written?

One: As I previously discussed, these stories were rushed. This event should've a SE. Even if it was a pared down SE like the 2025 Anniversary event on JP. I will not budge on this.

Two: The placement of his 'I love you' was literally four lines from the end of the story. After I literally had about a fifteen minute crash out, I finally tapped my screen to read the rest of the story and it ended, three lines later with no reaction from the MC. What???

First, for Jude to say something that HUGE to the MC after years and years of shutting love out of his life because he is terrified of it being stolen from him again, this moment should've been delivered with more care in view of his character. From the start of his romantic relationship with the MC he has been transparent with how he feels about saying those words. Not that he doesn't feel love, but he chooses to express it differently.

And to be clear, it's not that I'm saying I don't want Jude to say those words, because I do. But the emotions and the reaction from the MC should've been expounded upon. It would've made it more profound and realistic especially since she has been craving, yearning to hear him say those three little words.

Now I understand with collection events the lines are more limited, so there can't be ten lines of the MC's brain short circuiting over Jude saying I love you to her. Still, even if it was just ONE of the last three lines where maybe she starts to ask something like, "Did you jus-" and then Jude cuts her off with his sweet kiss. That would've been so much better imo because we get to see some of kind reaction to his FINALLY saying that to her.

I can hear some of you say, "Well, if this does take place in the future then he's likely already said it before and she's used to it by now."

To which I say, even if that was the case, this is the first time as readers that we are ever hearing him say that and the lack of emotion ruined this story for me. I felt that his first time saying it to her should've in an event where he nearly loses her like the 'Cursed Kiss' event, or even his sequel (assuming we get those in the future).

Now when the time comes (if it ever comes), and he says 'I love you' to her for the apparent 'first time' and the MC is on the floor with her soul ascending to heaven, I'm going to be rolling my eyes while I eat a pocky because the earth-shattering, hell-hath-finally-frozen over moment is dead and gone.
