Time for me to come clean about the obscure c-drama that was a big source of inspiration for Heavenly Tyrant lmao. It's called The Legend of Dugu and it's based on the Dugu sisters, who in history became empresses of three different dynasties. Qieluo from Iron Widow actually shares a historical inspiration with one of them, but in the show she's characterized very differently from how she typically is in popular consciousness. Her eldest sister Banruo (shown in this edit) is depicted as the more hardcore, ambitious one and gets entangled in a power struggle with the villain, Yuwen Hu. Their dynamic is IMMACULATE and contributed hugely to me writing Zetian vs Qin Zheng. Jeremy Tsui may not be styled as an edgy dark lord in this show like Dongfang Qingcang or Tantai Jin, but he very much embodies Qin Zheng for me.
overdone
This is how I know Zhang Linghe is thick skinned or at least secured in his image because this dive scene in Overdo is kinda embarrassing and so fucking funny. I would have pulled a Beyonce and have had this footage erased forever and never to be seen by any living being.
It’s truly my favorite scene from any cdrama I’ve ever watched. Just brings me joy seeing this.
As for Overdo, my opinion is that it’s kinda of a trash heap that I can’t look away from. It’s overly dramatic, nonsensical and unintentionally funny a lot of the time. I’m not quite hate watching it because I don’t hate it but it’s definitely not good but it’s also kind of great because of how bad it is.
Am I imagining things, or are there no gratuitous shirtless scenes in C-dramas anymore? None of the 4 dramas I've watched in the past year has had one. Am I just watching the wrong ones, or is this a new normal?
I shouldn't be staying up late watching TV, considering I have class tomorrow and need to review in the morning, but I'm having too much fun. Plus, I can plausibly say I was definitely practicing listening, aka one of my weak points!
Anyways, finished ep 2 and taking back everything I said about Wu Suo Wei being a nice guy, he really is quite the schemer now. Like, imagine deciding that the best way to get back at your ex is by stealing her man. And then spending an episode basically engineering meet cutes and trying to look like the manic pixie dream boy lmao

C dramas are so wild because they all have this kinda slow-burn, long-term investment quality about them that I just can't get enough of.
Like you get dumped right into the middle of a usually quite complex story and world and for the first 5, 10, heck, maybe even 20 episides youre like like "i have no fucking clue what is going on or who half these people are". But then suddenly there will be a Moment that just hooks you and your brain turns to rot and you realise you would die for literally every single one of these idiots
looking for blogs that post about c dramas since that’s whst seems to float my boat recently
