Goin’ to Wild West City, A city runnin’ wild!

The rear of the Smith General Store along the now-defunct @MorrisCanal at @waterloovillage in Byram Township, #NewJersey, part of Allamuchy Mountain State Park. This building was built in 1830 and in December 1847 it also became a post office, with Peter Smith serving as the first postmaster. It was a successful store because it was right along the canal, allowing boats to tie up at the rear and goods to be unloaded from boats right into the building using a wheel and pulley system. The Peter D. Smith home at @waterloovillage in Byram Township, #NewJersey, part of Allamuchy Mountain State Park. It was built in the Second Empire style in 1874. It was built by Peter D. Smith. Born in 1845, Peter worked in the family store and mills at Waterloo. In 1874, Peter and his brother Seymour bought the store and mills at Waterloo from their brother Samuel.
