This has been one of the most frequently asked questions since the start of the AU. And for YEARS we’ve kept quiet.

Originally, we were not intending to ever release any information about Chara’s past. The reason for this is because we did not want to encourage people to use Chara’s history as justification/dismissal of their current behavior.

However, we couldn’t help but start to put a little narrative together. After a while, I planned on writing Chara’s backstory right before the big climactic battle in Chapter 09.

Howeverrrrrr (again), this plan got axed because we needed to prioritize the main story and we figured it could continue to remain up to reader interpretation. (We worked in a small reference to it in the Justice/Kindness backstory though.)

Now that the AU is complete, I was thinking about writing a quick little bulleted list about Chara’s past. But, because you guys are so eager, we’ve decided to write Chara’s backstory as a proper chapter instead! Keep an eye out for it!

The unpleasant thought that has been haunting me since I played Deltarune is that Susie and Ralsei aren’t really friends with Kris. They are friends with me, the Player. 

Like a lot of games, Kris is merely the avatar I use to befriend the characters, but unlike most games, Kris is not okay with it, if their violent rejection of the soul is anything to go by.

Sure Kris could be friends with the two of them anyway, but for this little thought experiment I chased the idea that Kris has been fighting desperately against the Player, coming to despise their forced heroic acts, and resenting the friendships Susie and Ralsei formed with their puppeteer. When Kris does seize a moment of control, they are willing to do anything to escape recapture.

It is possible! The number 21 is still a rather odd number to say, but the true nature of checks is unknown.

we got such a huge outpouring of support upon posting the final chapter of caretaker, and it really warms the soul. we’ve answered some separately here and there, but there are so many we are electing to put the a bunch into one post! we couldn’t fit them all in one post so we’ll be following up with another later!
