#but reader inserts?

“I’ve always hated how in most Reader fanfics, they don’t include any of the canon girls (official or Nyotalia).

The author either makes (friend’s name), uses their dumb OC’s, or insert themselves in their fanfic as Reader’s ‘female friend’ or whatever shit.  So they don’t have any canon girl taking any available guy that Reader doesn’t end up with.

I’ve seen this in double date fanfics where the Author or her dumb OC is my female friend joining the date with another canon boy.  Some shit like that, which doesn’t make the author or her dumb OC’s look cool. They just want a way to claim their favorite male canon character. Nothing else.

Reader Inserts were also the reason why I used to dislike the Nyotalia guys because I couldn’t find much Reader Inserts with my favorite Hetalia lady and usually find more with the Nyotalia guys. Though that has changed and we see Reader x Hetalia or Nyotalia ladies more often. 

But still, it rubs me the wrong way when in some Nyotalia boy x Reader fanfics, they’d use the original Hetalia boys, instead of their Nyotalia counterpart. Like they put Ivan instead of Anya in Nyo!Belarus x Reader fanfics for no good reason. As if Anya isn’t a good sister in law or something.

Not to mention the disgusting treatment with canon girls being portrayed as awful bitchy bullies to Reader. It’s rare whenever the Hetalia girls are portrayed as bullies in fanfics, but they are.  You can see the difference how they’re treated in comparison to the canon boys that are portrayed as bullies when it’s someone like Seychelles, Hungary, Belarus, Belgium or Taiwan being the bitchy antagonistic. They’re portrayed as shallow unsympathetic bitches to make Reader Sue look better and want their comeuppance. Which the girls do get the worst punishment and Reader never forgives them nor shows any sympathy for them.

But, when the canon male characters are the bullies that are just as a bad and cruel as the girls, the guys are somehow easily forgiven and Reader, with no second thoughts, leaps into their arms with full fledged forgiveness and all pure sympathy towards them.  Even though the boys are in the unintentionally unsympathetic side.  Sure kids, especially teenagers, do horrible shit that they’d regret in the past but if you don’t give the bully character a proper comeuppance or give him an earned forgiveness, it’s total BS for someone to automatically forgive someone that has beaten them up and wished death threats on them for no reason. 

Honestly, the one with male bullies where they get no punishment for the awful shit they committed towards you pretty much reminds me of the ‘boys will be boys’ mindset. 

Note: Yes, the girls can be just as bad and deserved to be called for the shit they do. Just don’t turn the canon characters into unsympathetic bullies that treat you like shit for no reason, while treating it as a way to express their crush on them and get no punishment. This leads to unfortunate implications because people like that realize that they can get away with being an awful bitch and became an abusive grown adult.”

Generally, this is why I stay away from most Reader inserts unless they’re extremely creative or different.  That saying so, the only criticism I have is that point about the Nyotalia boys: let’s compare them to their Hetalia counterparts and how many Reader inserts they have.  (Note: I counted these from DeviantArt’s group CountryXReader group - there are probably more on FF, but I find them harder to find, and think of this as an approximation).

(Though I’m honestly glad Nyo!Vietnam doesn’t have many Reader inserts).

Most of the girls trump their Nyotalia counterparts minus Ukraine and Belarus.  The Nyotalia boys, as a whole, are actually more ignored than you think.  The Nyotalia boy who gets the most exposure in Reader fics and in general is Nyo!Belarus whose example you actually provided.  That doesn’t mean the Nyotalia boys themselves get a lot of exposure - it’s just Nyo!Belarus himself.  

I imagine this is because of Nyo!Belarus’ appearance fits the stereotypical mold of what girls find appealing today - “troubled but cute” and “edgy” badass bad boy.  Though he has no canon personality, fans seem to love pegging him as a yandere: one of the most popular (overrated) dere character archetypes.  That idea of a man obsessing over them to the point he’d kill someone to have them all for himself.  It’s considered “romantic” and “appealing” to these fans.  When in reality, that is one of the most immature and unhealthiest ways of expressing love to a person, and if someone does this to “express their love to you”, I’d personally recommend a restraining order.  

But then again, that comes to show you how immature those fans are (and please don’t bring age - maturity has nothing to do with age).  They want to be obsessed over.  They want the world to revolve around them. They want these grand and outlandish gestures because they think that’s how love works, and how love must be expressed.
