Inseparable Brotherhood: Three Hearts, One Promise
There are indications that some historical fraternities, including the Brotherhoods in the 19th century, encompassed homoerotic relationships and sentiments. However, these aspects were often secretive and not openly discussed. In some cases, a kind of romantic camaraderie and close bond between male members was fostered, occasionally exhibiting homoerotic elements. The ideals and values promoted by some of these fraternities, such as tolerance, friendship, equality, and personal freedom, had broader impacts on societal development. In this sense, they may have contributed to the emergence of a more accepting attitude towards sexual diversity and a more inclusive society.
In the 18th century, there were enlightening fraternities that advocated for Enlightenment ideas and progress. A prominent example is the Order of the Illuminati, founded by Adam Weishaupt in 1776 in Bavaria. The Illuminati aimed to create a society based on reason, tolerance, and social justice through education and enlightenment. They operated with secret structures and placed great emphasis on discretion.
The Illuminati were frequently criticized by conservative, autocratic, and clerical forces of their time, and various conspiracy theories were spread about them. These forces viewed the Enlightenment ideas and the Illuminati's aspirations as a threat to the existing order, particularly in terms of the influence of the Church and the nobility.
The conspiracy theories often claimed that the Illuminati had secret plans to take control of governments and institutions and establish a new world order. Such allegations were used to fuel fears and mistrust, casting the Illuminati in a negative light.
It is important to note that many of these conspiracy theories were largely unfounded and exaggerated. Nevertheless, they had a significant impact on public opinion and contributed to the rejection and persecution of the Illuminati. In hindsight, it has been shown that many of these accusations were exaggerated or simply false, and that the Illuminati actually pursued a very different goal: promoting education, tolerance, and social justice.

Los combates se dan entre miembros de la misma Studentverbindung. En contraposición con la mayoria de formas de esgrima y combate, los oponentes se mantienen estáticos. El objetivo es demostrar coraje al recibir los golpes de sable en la cara.
En algunos casos las heridas son rellenadas con crin de caballo para provocar una cicatriz más profunda y permanente. Estas son consideradas marcas de honor y, hasta principios del siglo XX, se consideraba que ningún hombre podía sostener un cargo público sin tener al menos una de ellas.

A Bucha (Burschenschaft), incrustrada na mais tradicional escola jurídica do país, a Faculdade de Direito do Largo de São Francisco em São Paulo, fundada em 1834 pelo tão genial quanto misterioso alemão Júlio Frank, assim como a Maçonaria, desempenhou um papel marcante na história do Brasil e em especial nos meios jurídicos e na política.
Com a queda do Império, que ajudou a derrubar, e o advento da República, que ajudou a instalar, a Bucha ganhou um imenso poder e foi muito influente no século XIX e começo do século XX, tendo dela participado futuros presidentes da República, ministros, jornalistas, escritores e outras personalidades influentes da República Velha.
Após a década de 1930, com o governo Getúlio Vargas, perdeu grande parte de sua força, mas nunca deixou de escolher quem iria governar o país, atuando clandestinamente nos bastidores.
O sociólogo Fernando Henrique Cardoso, que ocupou a Presidência da República de 1995 a 2003, era membro de uma outra poderosa sociedade secreta na Universidade de São Paulo (USP), a E.S.P.A.R.T.A, fundada em 1956, uma ramificação da Bucha que contaria com um projeto de poder denominado Janus, nome do deus romano representado por duas ou mais faces, cada qual olhando para uma direção distinta, ou seja, preparada para encarar dois cenários mundiais distintos, um com o socialismo como vencedor e outro com o capitalismo, mas sempre composta por duas elites para que seus interesses sobrevivessem em qualquer panorama.
Entre seus membros, estariam proeminentes figuras acadêmicas, como Perseu Abramo e Florestan Fernandes, ambos fundadores do Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT), que junto com o Partido da Social Democracia Brasileira (PSDB), fundado por FHC, têm se mantido há 30 anos na Presidência da República, irmanados em um projeto comum e devotados a uma mesma agenda.
