LOVED the a:tla episode!! i just liveblogged it to a couple people and feel VERY vindicated about sokka's sorting. i just have one lingering....uh, personal question (ie i've got a bet with someone): what do you guys think iroh's primary house sorting is? i know you guys must be super busy, so feel free to not answer if you don't have time/energy/inclination! thank you so much for your podcast :DD
Thank you! Iâm glad you liked it -- I think itâs one of our best episodes so far.Â
We actually did sort Iroh, but had to cut for time. We ended up sorting him as a Hufflepuff/Hufflepuff but also agreed that it would be easy to argue his Primary as Gryffindor or Ravenclaw too -- we just donât see enough of his formative decisions and challenges!Â
If you want to hear our thoughts and rationales on Iroh, I posted the extra 20 minutes or so that we cut from the episode on my Patreon, here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/sorting-avatar-39132127
The excerpt includes:
1. Azula as villain & tragedy
2. Sorting Iroh
3. Discussing whether the four Avatar nations err toward certain Houses or not
4. Talking about how each of the four Houses can "go evil" through pushing their traits to extremes. There's actually an example of each of the four Houses doing this in Avatar/Korra!

hi! firstly, i've loved your work since your naruto days--so i've, er, really been a longtime-lurker. i just wanted to say that i made a new year's resolution to write 100 words a day, intentionally setting it so ridiculously low that i had no excuse. and then, of course, once i get started, i end up writing way more bc then i've gotten into it. i think just STARTING the work can be the most difficult part so anything to trick yourself into it. um, no pressure to respond to this at all!
absolutely! whatever works! Iâm super proud of you for sticking to it :)
(ohhhh naruto fandom. my last major anime fandom. TIME IS A CIRCLE, etc.)
hi! i started looking at your blog for yuri on ice reasons (totally discovered your work through yuri on ice) and i was scrolling through and saw your prompts for the anon--and was like, whoa, i'm totally already doing 3 and even called it The Evolution of Victor Nikiforov. i wasn't sure whether to even send this message to you (as this is my first fanfiction....ever, and i'm v. shy), but the coincidence was too good to pass up XD love your work!
please please PLEASE tag me in this when itâs done!! Â iâm excited to read it!! (also stalked your blog, because iâm me and thatâs what i do, and the first thing i see is an anne carson quote, so clearly you have incredible taste and this fic is going to be nothing short of amazing). Â

should i read this?? i read code name verity and loved it
so far i am enjoying it, but i'm only like a third of the way through. it's making me want to reread verity, but i was so distraught the fist time i don't know if that's a great idea. knowing what these characters are going to go through in a few years time is bad enough without reading it all again.

oh my god, how can i get this to happen to me
my friend is fostering a litter of kittens for the humane society. they're only 5 weeks old and it sounds like it's a lot of work making sure they're okay and stuff, but the reward is that you're drowning in tiny fluffballs.
okay, so, john gets turned into a cat. i leave the how/why/conclusion up to you. i just want john to be a cranky kitty who unintentionally/or intentionally terrorizes his people until he gets turned back to normal. also, sherlock taking kitty!john to crime scenes on his shoulder and lestrade being Fed Up and calling mary, who shrugs and goes back to knitting cat sweaters
you fucking would
It had been concealed in an envelope and snuck through the Muggle post. And since no one except John got the post, John was inevitably the one who opened it. He reached into the envelope to find it empty but for some sort of powder, which he brought up to his face and sniffed. There was an explosion of sound as if lightning had just struck in the flat. Sherlock, who had been working on something on his laptop with his back to John, twisted in his seat and searched for his blogger, more puzzled than anything else. Mary, who had been napping in the bedroom, on the other hand, threw open the door with her hands crossed on top of one another, gun in one and wand in the other.
âWhat the hell was that?â she asked fiercely. âWhereâs John?â
Sherlock stood and walked into the kitchen. On the floor was an envelope, but no John was to be found. He peered out into the hallway, behind Mary (who tucked her gun into her waistband but kept her wand out and ready), into the bathroom to no avail. Then he heard the strangest sound: a meow.
âThat sounded likeââ Mary started to say, but shut her mouth with a click as they both watched a handsome brown and white tabby cat walk out from under the kitchen table.
Sherlock blinked several times before saying, âJohn? Is that you?â
The cat nodded.
âYou can understand me?â
Was it possible for a cat to roll its eyes?
âWhat did this to you?â Mary asked. The catâJohnâlooked over his shoulder at the envelope. Sherlock started towards it, but John arched his back, puffed out his hair, and hissed very fiercely.
Sherlock attempted to get around John, but to no avail. Finally, he picked John up to scowl at him. âI need to examine what did this to you, John,â he explained in an exaggeratedly slow voice. âOtherwise, we might not know how to bring you back toâow!â he shouted as John bit his wrist. He dropped the cat, who landed neatly on his feet.
Mary, in the meantime, had secured the envelope in a plastic gallon bag and zipped it shut. She didnât think that she had gotten any on her hands, but she washed them just to be sure. After that, she cast a quick cleaning spell on the floor as Sherlock argued with John. âI think,â she shouted to get Sherlockâs attention, âwe should take him to St. Mungoâs. Along with the powder. Whatever it is, itâs clearly something the Ministry should be aware of.â
John trotted over to Mary and rubbed against her legs, purring. âSounds like someone agrees,â she said, amused. Mary knelt to pick John up and held out her hand to Sherlock. âFloo?â
âProbably best. I donât know what Apparation might do to him,â Sherlock agreed, pulling out his wand and lighting a fire in the grate.
ââ
The specialists were baffled. It had been a day and a half, and they had tried everything they could think of to try to return John to his human state. The powder had been taken to Mycroftâs division in the Ministry, where it was being extensively tested. According to the updates, they were having no more luck in figuring out the powder than the staff at St. Mungoâs was having with John.
Finally, Sherlock had snapped. He grabbed John from a Healer and tucked him protectively in his arms. âENOUGH!â he roared. âYou and your obviously useless staff are just wasting your time. Maybe, if you were thinking more about your patient than the fact that your husband is cheating on you with the clerk at Weasleyâs, then you would have fixed John already. However, I can see that whatever training you received from your correspondence class on magical maladies is obviously sub-par and will not be of any use to myself or my partners. We will be taking John home, where at least he will be watched by Mary and myself, who are far better suited to the care of John in any state than you will ever be with even a pet pygmy puff!â
The Healerâs eyes were welling up with tears when Sherlock stormed out, Mary following him silently.
ââ
âSherlock,â Lestrade said, exasperated. âI cannot allow you to bring a cat onto this crime scene. Even if it is Johnâer, no offense, blokeâor, I guess, catâwhateverâit could contaminate evidence, magical or mundane.â
Sherlock hovered over the dead woman, deducing. âNonsense,â he replied absently. John walked from Sherlockâs shoulder to his back as Sherlock leaned down to look closer at something. âHe is just as valuable a sounding board to me as a cat. And at least I donât have to listen to him scold me when I point out how idiotic you all are.â
John dug his claws in, causing Sherlock to straighten and howl. âYou horrible littleâI could crush you with my bare hands!â he shouted. John, now sitting on the floor, didnât even look at Sherlock as he started to wash.
ââ
Mary woke up when she felt something drape over her eyes. âJohn?â she whispered blearily. Beside her, Sherlock shuffled in his sleep but didnât wake. She picked up the cat from her face with a sigh. âPlease donât do that. You could have suffocated me.â John butted his head against her chin, and she sighed, giving him a good scratch behind the ears.
He tolerated it for a minute or two before sliding himself beneath the duvet. Mary lifted it, watching him curl up on her stomach. âAre you cold or something?â she asked. John meowed plaintively, giving her a pitiful look. âAlright,â Mary said, snuggling deeper into the bed.
ââ
Lestrade burst into the flat. âSherlock, Iââ
âYes, the graveyard case. I was wondering when you were going to enlist my services,â he said with a sniff.
âHullo, Greg,â Mary said amiably. She was kneading bread on the kitchen table, which was free from experiments. Everyone in the flat had long ago learned not to object to Baking Days.
Sherlock walked over to Johnâs chair, where he was curled up, asleep on his pillow. Gently, Sherlock laid a hand on him. John woke instantly, making a chirruping noise as he did that Mary called his âcat activation noise.â âCase,â Sherlock explained.
John stretched, then climbed up onto Sherlockâs shoulder. âLetâs go,â Sherlock said imperiously. Lestrade watched in amusement as they walked towards the stairs. John was wearing a mini-replica of his favorite Fair Isle jumper. Smiling to himself, he followed the pair.
