𝙂𝙞𝙛𝙩𝙚𝙙 🍔 Honestly it’s been a looong time since I was properly blown away by a new burger, and I’ve missed that feeling so much. No beating around the bush, @bangbangburgeruk go straight up there with the best for me. Jamie, who also runs the kitchen at @leytonstonetavern, runs Bang Bang as delivery only from Bermondsey. Whilst you may see some similarities in the burgers at both locations, the really excel here. This is the Double Cheese Smash. 2 50 day dry aged beef and onion smashed patties, American cheese, bang bang burger sauce, mustard jam, lettuce, pickles. The caramelisation on that beautiful northern bred beef is delicious, and the way Jamie smashes the onion into the patties really helps to get those juices going through the meat. This burger is very close to the taste of a Big Mac, especially because of that sauce, and I say it all the time, anything that tastes like McDonald’s is a winner for me. I rate the burgers here VERY highly. 𝙂𝙞𝙛𝙩𝙚𝙙 🍔 Last week I visited @trumanssocialclub in Walthamstow which opened at the end of last year, but then was very quickly closed again due to lockdown 2. It’s tagline is London’s biggest beer hall, and I don’t doubt this, it’s MASSIVE. With a large indoor and outdoor space you’re covered for all types of weather. There’s both a brunch and an all day menu, and whilst I initially went for brunch I had a last minute change of heart and decided to go for a burger and other plates. This is the Club Cheeseburger; double beef patty, double American cheese, onions, pickles, and social sauce. I really liked this burger, the patty was a similar texture to Shake Shack and Studio Kitchen, that chewier (in a good way) kinda feel. I LOVED the spiced aubergine with a coconut yogurt and pomegranate. We also had the chicken social bowl which is a massive salad with a whole breaded chicken breast. The Dirty Fries was a massive portion too, topped with bacon bits, cheese sauce, crispy shallots, hot sauce and spring onion. I really enjoyed the food here and it’s a great space to work, meet with friends, chill out, or have a party. The Bleecker Black from @bleeckerburger. It was my favourite burger for many years, nothing came close, I think I had one every 2 weeks. Then it disappeared. There’s no point going into why, it was a long time ago and it’s nothing a very exciting story, but all that matters is that it’s BACK! Brought back as a DIY kit for St Patrick’s Day this week, pre orders went so crazy that it is now back for good to cook at home. (Fingers crossed it will be back at restaurants) It’s a double beef patty from @aubreyallenbutchers, topped with American cheese, house sauce, with @clonakilty_blackpudding in the middle. When you hold a burger in such high regard for many years the last thing you want is disappointment, but I have to say I absolutely smashed this and it was everything I remember it to be. If it goes back on at restaurants then it’s shooting up to joint first place for me. A lot of people turn their noses up at black pudding, but like a lot of things that’s down to the thought of it rather than the taste. The key is cooking and preparing the black pudding exactly as explained.
