#bumblefoot

My latest seasonal depression/depressive episode has literally harmed another living being. Not intentionally, of course, but through neglect, and this time it was more than just a plant dying from under-watering.

My lack of proper guinea pig habitat/cage cleaning has likely given my little old guy bumblefoot that could potentially have spread into his muscles or bones, as three of his legs have swelling in them (but only the front feet look like bumblefoot).

When I discovered that over the weekend (because I was finally going to trim both boars' nails), I felt sick to my stomach with guilt. To know my infrequent cleaning has caused my favorite littlest guy pain and suffering just kills me, and certainly doesn't help the depression. Recognizing the bumblefoot, I started soaking his feet twice a day in a chlorhexidine water solution to prevent it getting any worse.

His appetite and mobility don't seem to be suffering, so those are definitely good things.

We have an appointment with the vet tomorrow evening. Please send good vibes that some antibiotics and pain relief meds, in addition to home care, will be all he needs to turn the corner back to being a healthy, happy guy.
