The 48 meters high Kalyan Minaret (1127) in Bukhara, Uzbekistan.
In 1220, roughly one hundred years after the construction, Mongol troops conquered the city. While the rest of Bukhara was tragically sacked and destroyed, Genghis Khan was so impressed and amazed by the sheer beauty and scale of this minaret that he ordered it to be saved.
We are going to see the Kalyan Minaret too in the forthcoming tour in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, join us!
