Building Tip: Out-of-Town Blocks
When choosing a block of land for your dream home, it might seem like that out-of-town block with the wonderful view is exactly what you want. But don’t forget to question what services it has, and what you will need to provide yourselves. How far does the electricity need to come? Does it have water, or do you need to provide your own rainwater tanks? Is it connected to a sewage system or do you need to provide your own?
All these extras can be put in, but they do come at a cost. So if you are mentally budgeting on building a house there for the same cost as it would take to build in town where all of the services just need connecting to, you will not only be disappointed but you might find that your budget just doesn’t stretch that far.
So make sure you get all of the facts about your block up front before you buy to avoid unwanted surprises! For more tips, if you don’t already have it download our free guide “Buying Land and Building a Home” - it’s available on our website now: click here to get your copy .
