The Natural History Museum
Cruel World Fest and the Bug Fair at the Natural History Museum are going to be the same weekend. Itās going to be like autistic Christmas in LA.
i really wish we had found a way into this garden. want to go back on a day thatās not too sunny, because roses are the best. holding a hissing cockroach was the least of my worriesāi ate chocolate coated cricket powder? ah, it was pretty good. well, it was a lot of dark chocolate. lots of beautiful, iridescent butterflies. enough honey to go around for everyone. stairs to get lost in, rotundas to be found. falling in love with insects of various shapes, colors, and sizes while holding hands with a boy i happen to be in love with already.
ending the afternoon with duolingo lessons (spanish, french, italian) and ice cream.
he is a great photographer. look at the spacing and the colors and the composition in general. he puts effort into bringing together all the elements and i love it.
Items I bought from bug fair at the natural history museum los Angeles country Jelly fish print and I'm absolutely in love with these buttons

On the next couple of weekends of October there are going to be a couple events in the Pomona/Claremont, CA, Ā area I want to make mention of. From 9am to 5pm on October 17th and 18th there is going to be the Pomona Bug Fair at Cal Poly Pomona (at the Bronco Student Center). It is a smaller show compared to the one held at the Los Angeles Natural History Museum but is much cheaper to attend (admission is $5 or $4 if youāre a student and parking is free). It provides an excellent educational opportunity to see both live and dead insect specimens as well as get started on insect collecting and other stuff (talking to the vendors can be very interesting, especially if theyāre the ones that collected the specimens). If you want honey, thereāll be a vendor that sell a variety of honey they collected themselves. The following Friday and Saturday, October 23rd and 24th from 5:30pm to 9pm, is the popular Things That Go Bump in the Night Event at the Rancho Santa Ana Botanical Garden. This is not a Halloween event but a āfun evening family event to observe and learn about plants and animals that are most active at night.ā In other words, you get to walk around the garden at night while learning about nocturnal organisms⦠just make sure to bring a flashlight. Thereāll be some live animals like Opossums, Wolves, maybe owls, spiders, and a show about parasitic insects. Admission is $10 for non-members and parking is free⦠if you can find any (so come really early to get a good spot). A fellow entomologist and I will be there with a sample of our insect collections (along with my live ironclad beetles) talking about the wonders of insects and other arthropods to the folks that attend. Plus youāll get to see me in a safari jacket ;P Ā
Both events are pretty fun and Iād like to make them known whenever possible. So if youāre curious and happen to be in Southern California, feel free to check both events out.
