Synopsis: The Hound Wolf Squad was sent to deal with a suspicious group that was terrorizing the outskirts of the city in the U.S. with the remnants of the Umbrella Corporationâs bioweapons that were supposed to be destroyed. While dealing with the mess, the squad was surprised by a revelation they never saw coming.
The Captain of the Hound Wolf Squad has many secrets and is well known for his quick, decisive actions to fight off the threats that threaten humanity. No one knows much about his past, only bits of what he likes or a few habits he reveals during a time of peace.Â
But he never brings anything else. Of course, his team, who have worked for him for 3 whole years and even went to turn their backs against the HQâs approval and turn rogue, never knew much about his past. And they respected him for it; heâs a private man after all.
So there wouldnât be much that could set off the whole squad, right?
Right?!
It was only the afternoon, and Chris was already tired. Why did the higher-ups not deal with their problems?
Wasnât the Baker House Incident enough? What about the village back in Romania?
It was all the same to him.
And heâs had it.
âSir, weâve got five suspects who are under suspicion of using bioweaponry,â Umber Eyes informed in the coms.
With a sigh, Chris flicked his cigarette away with his fingers, âCopy. Lobo, Night Howl and Canine go south, the rest with me as we go north. Letâs get this done quickly.â
âYes, sir.â
While tracking down the suspects, Chris had thought it was going to be an easy arrest and get on to much better stuff.
How wrong is heâŠ
The suspects just had to go and do something stupid.
Like what, you may ask?
Oh, I donât knowâŠ
Maybe take in hostages and accidentally make a supposedly dead virus into explosives.
You read it right.
EXPLOSIVES.
âSir, weâve got traces of explosives nearby, and the suspects took hostages. Weâre not sure the number,â Tundra came through the radio, her voice holding a grim tone.
âSecure the hostages and explosives! If possible, get the suspects, but prioritize the innocents first,â the Captain replied, running with Night Howl and Canine after the suspects they spotted.
âThis day got a helluva more interesting,â Umber Eyes said under his breath.
Chris cursed under his breath, âFucking BSAA canât clean up their messes.â
The teamâs sniper tackled one of the suspects, âOn the ground!â
Tundra pointed her gun at the other one, âHands in the air!â
The three were able to surround them, making them unable to escape. âWhere are the explosives?â Chris asked the supposed leader.
The man just sneered back, âI ainât telling you jack shit.â
âYou might want to rethink your answer. Because I can still get answers from you even if I shoot your leg,â the male dressed in black replied curtly, pointing his pistol at the suspectâs leg.
This dawned on the leader making him curse, âFuckâŠ! FineâŠI told the rest of my gang to head into the city with themâŠâ
Umber Eyes checked his watch. âThey must be near already.â
Chris nodded at the information given before turning away, âTake these bastards away.â
âCanine? What's your status?â He went to speak to the rest of his team.
âNear the city. Weâve got them, but some explosives were smuggled in. There mightââ
Before he could finish, the ground started to rumble thanks to the distant sounds of explosions.
âFuck meâŠâ Chris muttered when staring at the clouds of smoke.
âGet to the site as soon as possible! And secure the perimeter!â The captain shouted in the comms before making his way to the Toyota Hilux to get there himself.
âThere you go. You should be fine,â a soft voice told a child after tying a bandage around their arm.
The child smiled with a nod before running to his mother.
âWeâve got 2 more,â a male nurse said to the woman.
She wore a red ribbon around her right arm, signalling her alignment with the medical team sent to help the people affected by the explosions.
âOkay, Iâve got more beds in this tent!â She smiled, gesturing to the two cots, âYouâll be treated and safe here.â
They thanked her immensely before she left to deal with the rest of the problems.Â
âYes, thank you. Please carry it over here,â She smiled, directing many people to place the medical supplies, food, and necessities for the casualties.Â
âBoss! More incoming!â Someone called out to her.
âComing!â She shouted back, running over to help.
On Chrisâ end, his team made it and found the remnants of the explosives.
âWe defused the rest, they wonât be terrorizing the city,â Tundra said, standing with Umber Eyes.
Chris nodded, âGood. Any casualties?â
âNone. Just a bunch of civies that were injured by the shockwave,â answered Canine, surveying the area, âI assume they exploded the devices while they headed here,â he said about the arrested suspects.
âOkay, check the area. Be careful of the BSAA; they might know about our whereabouts.â The leader of the squad ordered.
The group exchanged similar responses before separating again.
The captain was with Tundra and Umber Eyes as they looked around to see not much damage, just some shattered glass and a lot of things out of place.
âKind of surprised there's a unit stationed out here,â Umber Eyes mumbled.
âIâm not sure itâs a unit, itâs probably some civilians helping each other,â Tundra said her theories. âThey donât bear any official markings.â
Chris took note of the many people wearing a blue bandanna around their left arm, âKeep up your guard, anything could happen. And try to find the leader.â
After walking around, Tundra walked up to a worker and asked who the leader was. The woman smiled, âOh! Youâre talking about our boss! Sheâs at the big tent over there, she wears a red bandanna. Sheâs a complete sweetheart.â
âOkay, well that was easy,â Umber Eyes shrugged.
They quickly found the largest tent to be in the middle of the perimeter that the civilians created for on-site medical tents.
âCould she be it?â Umber Eyes questioned.
âMaybe,â Tundra replied.
When Chris laid his eyes on the person, he immediately recognized who it was.
It was you.
You were treating a patient before asking for one of the volunteers to help them inside a tent.
Before thinking, he walked, his long strides eating up the distance between you two.
âCaptain?â Tundra called out to him, âSir?â Umber Eyes, too, but he ignored them. All his mind had was you.
Thankfully, you noticed the large man standing a few feet from you. Well, how couldnât you, considering Chrisâs size?
âThere you are,â you smiled at him, standing up to greet him, âI suppose the threat is over?â
A wave of relief and calmness washed over him when he saw your smile, âYeah. It is.â
He placed his large hand on her arm, it trailed down to hold her hand, âAre you alright?â He asked, his gruff voice holding a tone of softness, only for her.
You nodded, âIâm fine. Iâm just helping out. Got word and signed my team to be dispatched here. Weâre not doing much, but we want to help.â
âI didnât think youâd accept it since it's on the other side of the state. But itâs you weâre talking about, I know youâd drop everything to help others,â Chris noted, holding a note of pride about how noble you were.
A small smile appeared on your lips, âHey. I didnât get a degree for nothing.â You joked lightly before your eyes softened, âIâm alright. Promise.â
âThank God,â he breathed out, âIâm glad you are.â
You let out a small chuckle, âWhat? Worried I was going to run towards danger?â
He scoffed slightly, although it turned into a small airy laugh, âKnowing you. Maybe.â
âYou know me too well,â You teased, âA bit too well.â
âIâm your husband, of course I do,â Chris replied.
He lifted your hand in his, raising it delicately as if you were a flower, âBut seriously. Iâm glad youâre alrightâŠI wouldnât know what Iâd do if you were hurt.â He pressed a gentle kiss to where your ring is.
âMaybe blow up your enemies and anyone who dared to lift a finger against me?â You joked.
He held a small smirk, âYeah, that sounds like what Iâd do.â
âHow about you?â You asked, âYou okay?â
âTired, but fine, thanks for asking, sweetheart,â Chris replied.
You gave a small hum, eyes glancing at his form, âHave you been smoking?â
He sighed, knowing he got caught, âI know, I know. Itâs bad for meâŠIâll cut back a little this month.â
âIâd rather you cut back for the rest of your life. Youâre not getting any younger, love,â You lectured him lightly.
Chris gave an incredulous look, âAre you calling me old?â
You softly laughed, âNo, no. I meant thatââ
âReally? âCause I think you just called me old indirectly,â Chris cut you off while you tried to stifle your giggles.
âI mean, isnât pushing 50 kind of old?â You asked innocently with a mischievous smile.
Chris raised an eyebrow at that, âHey, youâre only 3 years younger than me.â
âAnd thatâs a lot! Plus, itâs almost 4 years so,â You corrected.
The tall male just threw his head back a little while subtly rolling his eyes, âYouâre unbelievableâŠâ
âYou seeing this?â Umber Eyes asked Tundra.
âOur captain smiling and speaking without a care in the world to a woman who he kissed her hand? Yeah, I see it,â she replied sarcastically, âHe never told usâŠâ
âProbably because he wanted to keep it secret,â He suspected.
The two approached the couple, âSir, the others are coming in our direction.â Tundra informed, not wanting to impose too much.
Chrisâs face turned serious in a split second, âGot it. Inform of the updated status of the explosives.â
You looked between the two figures and your husband before realizing who they were, âAh. You must be part of Chrisâs team.â
Umber Eyes nodded, âYeah, we are. Sorry if weâre imposing.â
âNo, no, itâs fine. Really. You were doing your job, the people here are used to this a little,â you waved your hands around to dismiss it.
âYou must be the leader of this group, right? Thanks for helping out,â Tundra gestured to the nurses and volunteers.
You smiled, âMhm! We just wanted to provide comfort to those around us.â
The rest of the team arrived with the help of Umber Eyes. Making you realize just how tall these people are.
Noticing Chrisâs silence, you glanced at him and realized he was staring at you. Your cheeks felt warm at his staring, and you lightly tapped his forearm, gesturing to his team.
âItâs improper not to introduce others, Captain,â you whispered.
Chris blinked once and realized his stupor and soon cleared his throat, âRight. Sorry.â
âTeamâŠThis is my wife,â he introduced you, saying your name and his surname.
You waved at them, âHello! Nice to meet you. Thank you for all your hard work,â you said softly.
âItâs nothing, really,â Umber Eyes shrugged as Canine looked his way but said nothing.
Night Howl spoke after, âSoâŠYouâve been married to the Captain for how long?â
â8 years,â you answered proudly, âalmost 9. It will be our anniversary soon.â
âAnd heâs kept you a secret this whole time?â Umber Eyes questioned as Canine sent him a look for him to stop talking.
Chris let out a short breath, knowing his team was going to be curious, you chuckled and answered, âYes. Even before our marriage. Iâve been with Chris for 15 years.â
Umber Eyes was going to say more before his boss gave him a sharp look, which made him immediately step down. âTold you soâŠâ Canine shook his head, muttering a little at his teammateâs ignorance.
You, on the other hand, gently hit your husbandâs forearm, âOh, please. They were merely asking. Itâs not like they wanted my social security number.â You chastised softly.
âRight, right. Sorry. Wonât happen again,â Chris apologized sheepishly with a lighter tone than usual.
Umber Eyes secretly gestured to the others in slight surprise, shocked by how someone that only reaches about the captainâs mid bicep can easily scold him with mere words.
âHonnestly, itâs no surprise heâd want to keep you secret,â Tundra noted.
You gave a small shrug with a sigh, âThe cons of being married to a soldier. Specifically a Captain.â
âItâs to ensure your safety and my sanity. To which itâs at its wits end sooner than expected,â Chris answered truthfully.
You covered a part of your mouth to whisper something, âHeâs just really protective... But heâs a teddy bearâŠâ
The said âteddy bearâ glanced your way as you quickly pretended to look somewhere else, humming a soft tune to avoid his gaze.
âTeddy bearâŠâ Umber Eyes pursed his lips tightly under his mask, trying to stifle a laugh.
âMoving on.â Chrisâ sharp tone brought the team back on alert.Â
âWe still have a job to do. We need to secure and pack up the explosives before the BSAA gets their hands on it,â The Team leader told his team.
The soldiers nodded and went their separate ways to collect all the defused explosives to put them somewhere safe.
âSo? I guess this is where we part ways, hm?â You asked, staring up at your spouse.
Chrisâ eyes softened when holding your gaze, âI wish I didnât need to. But, I donât want you or anyone else hurt. I couldnât live with myself knowing I deliberately brought harm to you.â
You nodded gently, âI understand,â reaching for his face as he instinctively lowered his head so you could touch his face.
âBe safe.â You advised, âAnd donâtââ, ââDonât show up with scratches on my face or else youâll kick my ass. I know the drill, sweetheart,â he interrupted gently.
You smiled, âGood. Means I donât need to repeat myself.â You lightly punched his shoulder, âGive âem hell, Big guy.â
A small smirk appeared on his lips, âYes, maâam.â He replied before walking away to join his team.
