One of the cool records I found in Las Vegas: The Budos Band's live EP, "The Shape of Mayhem to Come," on Daptone. Turns out it is a limited edition Record Store Day Black Friday 2016 edition of 1,300 records. I couldn't believe that amazing etching on side two!

Hit up a record store I rarely go to today; this was playing while I was there, and pretty soon I knew I had to get it. This is hipsters playing old-school Dennis Coffey-style funk/RnB with a dash of Breakestra and spaghetti western soundtrack thrown in for good measure. Coolest surprise: side two ends with a loop of guttural sax in the playout groove, so it catches on the warbling low notes and repeats until you turn off your turntable.

The Budos Band - Burnt Offerings LP Imagine yourself wandering through a 70's cinema featuring a blaxploitation film and suddenly fire and smoke erupt from the center of the theatre. You suddenly realize you are standing directly in a war of the gods. Evil lurks at every corner and angels circle directly overhead. Their war wages without sympathy and the soundtrack from the feature film roars over the soundsystem. Kung Fu kicks on screen seemingly match the eruption of violence directly in front of you. This is what Burnt Offerings sounds like. Don't sleep on the Budos Band. They are terrific!
