i was wondering: in the timeline where doc and marty havent been sent to the far west yet or havent created hell valley by accident yet: why didn’t doc help marty go back and prevent his october 27 1985 car crash after it happened? i’m sure that after the accident, as soon as they saw each other marty would have asked him to use the delorean to fix it! and yet in 2015, we see that marty lives with the terrible consequences of that crash. which can only mean that back in october 27, 1985, doc has refused to use his technology to help his friend. but that doesn’t make sense: sure, we know that doc is starting to consider destroying the time machine and is scared of time paradoxes. but is this enough to justify this lack of assistance when marty has just ruined his life? the audience can perhaps understand pre-crash doc finding out about the accident in 2015 and being hesitant to do anything about it immediately, but post-crash doc standing in front of an injured marty and telling him no when he asks him directly to fix it is a different matter…
then i thought about something that could make sense: what we see in 2015 doesn’t necessarily mean that post-crash doc didn’t help marty to go back and cancel the accident. it can also mean that he did but the changes haven’t propagated up to 2015 yet. and pre-crash doc, as he explores 2015, knows this is a possibility, so it’s better to wait and see. however, i’m still unsure if that’s how it works.
