WTD's Advent Calendar - 23 - The Tree Ring
The Tree Ring, from San Diego, make a decidedly orchestral brand of folk music. Their new(est) album, Brushbloom, is an intricately put together record that brings to mind the best of Andrew Bird, Beirut and maybe Typhoon. Joel P. West, the man in charge of writing and arranging the record, does a great job balancing the songwriting and the instrumentation, so that neither is forced to play second fiddle, leading to a rich listening experience that rewards repeated listens.
Listen to the first track from the album below and order it on Bandcamp. If you buy the album, make sure you order the beautiful map which indicates the geographical origins of each song. A great idea with a lovely result.

The Tree Ring - The Rainshadow
A little bit mad at myself for waiting so long to listen to this lovely track; the first one released from the upcoming Brushbloom release. A whole lot relieved though; this reassures me that everything is worth the wait.
