Is in any way meant to represent reality (which is, admittedly, a pretty big 'if' given the way the songs in this film tend to dip in and out of reality— but this particular scene is framed pretty naturalistically) then it suggests that, on top of his other powers, Bruno also glows in the dark, which gives us a whole other reason why the townsfolk were creeped out by him.
