Could you please write #10 "The rattling screams don't disrupt my dreams. It's a lullaby, in its way." with Bruce/Bucky?? -kitten anon
Bruce has his own room. Tony doesnāt question it when Bruce orders the very expensive sound-proofing equipment, thinking itās probably for the Hulk, should he make an appearance.Ā
Itās not.Ā
Well, not really. Occasionally, Hulk makes the theatrical debut that everyone dreads.Ā
In reality, Bruce screams and yells, knocking over things in his sleep. Heās suffered from nightmares since he could remember, although some were different in concept and in context.Ā
This is why whenever he does gain interest in someone, he never does anything about it. Because he canāt sleep through the night without yelling, without screaming himself hoarse. Heās tried everything to silence it short of hypnotism, and thatās because heās too big of a skeptic.Ā
Bucky Barnes enters the picture after SHIELD falls, when his eyes are still a little too blank and he doesnāt know what a spork is. Bruce doesnāt know why that second fact has stuck in his head, but it has.Ā
Bucky only knows lack of his own control. Bruce only knows a complete hold on control. Both know for all the wrong reasons.Ā
Bruce is the only one that really doesnāt care about Buckyās more dangerous habits, the ones that put everyone on edge.Ā
āWhy donāt you hide?ā Bucky asks once, voice raspy. Itās been a rough day, full of thrown knives and one particularly sharp plate-throw at Steve, which Bruce had to not laugh at.Ā
āIf you think you can kill me, be my guest,ā Bruce says dryly.Ā āThe governmentās tried, so Iāve been waiting for something or someone they donāt know about to give it their best shot.āĀ
Bucky shouldnāt have laughed.Ā
But he does.Ā
Bruce grins a little at that, because maybe heās found somebody who understands just how bad a life can be, and how funny it can be when you realize it.Ā
They kind of trade the stories being messed up together.Ā
āI still canāt look Steve in the eye and see him for who he is,ā Bucky says.Ā
āAn idiot?ā Bruce offers.Ā āI saw him break two coffee mugs yesterday.āĀ
Bucky laughs.Ā
Bruce goes next.Ā
āI canāt stop treating things with delicacy.āĀ
āGet a glass animal collection, maybe youāll keep it,ā Bucky offers.Ā āOr, better yet, teach Thor how to treat things with care. He broke my hairbrush.āĀ
āHow the hell did he do that?āĀ
Itās...refreshing, to talk to someone whoās as fucked up as him.Ā
And then it gets to the screaming matches. Apparently, Bucky does it as well.Ā
It isnāt until a mission goes sour and Bucky canāt stand to be alone that Bruce offers to stay with him.Ā
āI canāt promise I wonāt scream,ā Bucky says.Ā
āMe either,ā Bruce says, smiling slowly.Ā āSo letās get to sleeping.āĀ
Neither of them scream. Itās the first time it happens.Ā
Bruce is a man of science. Heās a true believer in the scientific method because if he ever trusts another person, itāll be the day he decides to go back to college to get a degree in the arts.Ā
So they obviously have to spend more time together.Ā

Bruce gets to know Bucky, after Hulk has made friends with the Winter Soldier.
Okay, I know I donāt have many interactive followers, but I need opinions. I have several Big Fics underway, and I donāt know which one I want to concentrate on first. So, Iām asking yāall to vote (and I will shamelessly tag a bunch of people whoās opinions I would love, sorry not sorry). The options areā¦
(beware the cut!!)
Softly, With Starry Eyes
He reaches out to tuck a fallen curl behind Tonyās ear. Tony can feel the nerves sitting in Steveās gut, but all he can feel is relief.
Maybe this wonāt be so hard.
āDinner.ā Steve says, breaking Tony out of his thoughts. āWe should have dinner first.ā Heās smiling, and his fingers are still tracing Tonyās cheek. Tony reaches up to intertwine them with his own.
āDinner,ā he echoes. āWe can do that.ā
A shared emotions soulmate AU in which everyone expects Steve and Tony to angst over the situation and continue their antagonist barely-even-co-workers style relationship for Some Time, but what actually happens is a healthy embarkment into a strong and trusting romantic relationship.
I did say this is an AU.
Featuring; Tony actually wants a soulmate, the two most stubborn individuals on the planet, some rare-pairs because fight-me, and really not that much angst at all.
A long ass fic that leads into a complex universe, injecting a large supernatural element into the MCU universe. Written for @kiernaserea, it features Ghost!Steve haunting Tony as he grows up, and them eventually being able to get to know eachother.
Large focus on slow-build Steve-Tony, Steve&Maria friendship, and Tony becoming the Tony we all know and love.
Tony fusses over the bots quietly, but eventually he turns to where Steve stands, his hand not in the sling coming to rest on Dum-Eās head. āSo youāre my kind ghost?ā he asks, and his voice is shaking. āSteven fucking Rogersā¦ā he murmurs around a smile so fragile, that Steve canāt help but quip;
āThere should be a Captain in there somewhere.ā and though his voice is breaking, Tony smiles and heās laughing, and perhaps itās slightly hysterical but the haunted look fades a little behind his eyes. Steve smiles back easily and lets Tony laugh. He stops eventually, propping himself up on Dum-E - whoās more than happy to stay there and be a prop - and for a moment he just stares at Steve.
āDo I want to know?ā he asks after a moment, and swallows hard. āMy mother-ā he stops himself. Steve wishes he could pull the man into a hug.
āShe wants to see you.ā Steve settles on, when it's clear that Tonyās not going to speak. āBut she doesn't want to make this worse.ā Tony's eyes go wide.
āWhat the fuck is going on? Because you- you and her are very dead.ā he freezes then. āDid I die, is that it? Or is this some form of punishment-?ā
āNo! No, it's-ā Steve runs a hand through his hair. āYou're not dead, Tony. I don't know how you can see us now, but you can, so that's a, that's a, a thing.ā Tony's got one eyebrow raised at him. āYou're not crazy, I swear.ā Steve tells him, because he knows what Tony is thinking.
āSo I'm just supposed to accept that Captain America decided to spend his afterlife haunting the fuck out of me?ā
āIf you could that would really speed this explanation up.ā
The Soulmate Situation
A poly-soulmate, names on skin fic, where Tony, Steve, Bucky, Natasha and Bruce all share a bond. Slow-build, mild emotional angst, but mostly just them feeling out each otherās broken edges and getting together. Itās got a lot to it with no substance, at present. A snippet of the prologue, to give a feelā¦
Time likes to play games.
Ā Meeting soulmates two and three is something of a clusterfuck.
Steve Rogers isnāt dead.
(He thought he was though, heād made peace with that, and now heās in a future and screaming that he shouldnāt be here even if most of his soulmates are).
Thereās a god in the room and another out to get them, and oh, Bruce Bannerās smirk is adorable but his walls are up (- and heās furiously trying to barricade himself up behind them, muttering this is bad this is bad this is bad-) and heās tense as hell. Tonyās never felt more alone in a crowded room that he does right now.
Three names in touching distance, and about as far away as they could be. No friends.
No allies.
Heās never been called a team player, and maybe this is why.
Ā Itās all any of them ever wanted to be.
Ā +
Ā Tony looks down, and they look up. Nuke in hand, Tonyās 99% assured of his own imminent destruction. Time will take him back too soon. He wonders if there are words.
They all do.
Iām sorry seems quite prevalent. Forgive me, hot on its heels.
Theyāll be Tonyās dying words, if he does speak, but heās no poet and thereās nothing worthy that he can make pass his lips.
Thereās worse things to die for, Tony thinks to himself, and then the universe is stretching out before him. He closes his eyes to the endless abyss and the armada beyond with a smile and a not-quite prayer, and hope that wherever heās destined for James will be waiting.
Steve smiles like the sun when he wakes on a roar, and Tony thinks to himself there are worse things to live for.
Ā Cross My Heart
Based, with permission on a complex ass idea of @goodmorningbelovedās that I was very eager for, planned, and then had a very bad drop in mental health. If you vote for this, Iām going to need help. I canāt do this fic alone. The opening, to give a feelā¦
It starts like this.
Ā Tony glances down at his wrist. Heās in the rubble of New York where he was before. The same people are gathered around ā he was gone for months, but he was gone for less than a moment. Heās not the only one surprised.
The X is still there.
A mark as if drawn on in black ink, like heās seen on the skin of so many people and never seen on his own. Heās still waiting for it to disappear, he realises, but itās not fading. Thereās small changes happening to the situation; whatever he changed, itās helping. The X isnāt fading.
He looks up, and finds Bruce before he finds him.
āTime is more linear than we thought.ā Tony says, and then he starts to laugh.
Ā For Tony, it starts like this.
Ā Tony feels like heās committing some form of cardinal sin.
Itās not unusual for the crossed ā those with their soulmate Xās ā to sleep with other people, even the uncrossed. It would be silly not to, so often people donāt know who caused the X to appear on their wrists.
But this is Captain America.
Fuck that, itās Steve Rogers, whoās damn well meant to be untouchable to someone like Tony. Heās just so touchable though, and he started it.
When this all comes crashing down around his ears, Tony will remember. Steve started this.
Ā For Steve, it starts like this.
Ā He walks fast, avoiding people on the streets as they bustle past, avoids the alleyway and- wait. Tony walks back a few steps, and before it honestly registers what heās seeing, heās calling out āhey!ā The two taller men step apart for a moment, and Tony gets a flash of blond hair from the guy they were kicking the shit of before they turn to him. āWhy donāt you pick on someone your own size? Maybe without ganging up on him like cowards?ā The men sneer, glancing at each other, and with a sigh Tony holds open his jacket to show them the revolver heās got tucked in his belt. āPull the other one, fellas.ā He says ā god itās only been a month and heās picking up the slang in a way he never had when it was just Steve to learn it from. The men pale, and leave in a huff.
Tonyās holding out a hand to help the poor guy up, and itās not until heās staring into a pair of blue eyes he knows as intimately as he knows himself, that Tony realises heās just fucked up.
Thereās an X on his wrist, to match the one on Steveās.
Part of him wants to laugh that heās always been jealous of himself, and the rest of him seems to be sending in an error report.
āYou didnāt have to do thatā¦?ā Steve trails off into a question, and Tony coughs, wishing he didnāt have to lie about his name but knowing he must.
āEdward.ā He says. āAnd I couldnāt just let my best fella get beaten.ā
Ā The middle?
Well.
Thatās complicated.
Ā The Road Through Hell (Is Paved With Fucking Landmines)
Welcome to the best Worst Road Trip fic youāll ever read; where everyone's crazy, the war doesnāt matter, and the only thing being counted are the bullet holes in Howard's Aston Martin.
A fic featuring Tony, Natasha, Loki, Clint and Sam going AWOL amid my version of WW3 to go and rescue the unit that Steve, Bucky and Thor are assigned where it has been lost and abandoned behind enemy lines. The war is in the background, this features SteveTony letters, ridiculous jokes and dark moments, but a surprising lack of angst. Hopefully.
Ā Treasure of the Heart
When Steve Rogers comes to see him, and wishes to find his brother, Bruce knows that to grant his wish will set a chain of events in motion. Events that could tear apart the kingdom, and will probably break his heart.
He says yes anyway.
Wish-granter!Witch!Bruce, pre-serum!adventurer!Steve, soul-forger!Tony, assassin!Natasha, half-elf!theif!Clint, dwarven!Thor, knight!Rhodey, cleric!Pepper and faye!Jan. Also featuring Dummy, Jarvis, You and Butterfingers as soul-wisps, a Peter&Harley&Kamala cameo, and a past to remain where it lays.
Itās a Bruce/Bucky fic, with an on-going plan thatās sat in a chat. Iām fond of it, even if it drives me nuts.
(If people were looking for The Starkās High Society Orphans Club on this list, I apologise, but also promise that that fic is always on-going, but it also never had a plan. Iām still writing it, but it gets more attention than all of these and gets difficult at every turn).
@ishipallthings @itsallavengers @xtaticpearlsblog @codeflaws @savedbythenotepad @itstheallmother @reioka @agenderraskel @viudanegraaa uh⦠fuck, just, please?? Help me?? I donāt know which to work on and Iād prefer to work on something people would actually like to read!!
(People can reblog this. Please reblog this. Iāll come back and look at 17/08 8pm GMT. Wait no GMT plus 1, itās summer. Friday, Iām looking on Friday).Ā
Lyric prompt: "I clutched my life and wished it kept/ My dearest love/ I'm not done yet/ How many years/ I know I'll bear/ I found something/ In the woods somewhere" (In the Woods Somewhere by Hozier) maybe with Bruce/Bucky???
Bruce wasnāt anticipating finding Bucky Barnes in the middle of the fucking woods as he was running from the government. But hey. There has been weirder shit thatās happened. (Read: Hulk doing an interview, Bruce being on the no-fly list, and Tony Stark sending him a snapchat that was obviously meant for Rhodey, as it was a paragraph-long rant about Steve and planning.)Ā
But Bucky Barnes was in the middle of the woods, sitting on a felled tree. He looked like a punk member of the fae, maybe a demon. Bruce fumbles with the zipper on his jacket.Ā
āUm, hi?ā Barnes zeroes in on him, already holding a knife and taking aim.Ā āSo, you might not want to hurt me, as I can level a forest in probably thirty minutes give or take. Which isnāt a good idea, as I also am a conservationist. I will find you.ā He puts the knife down.Ā
āWho the hell are you?ā He asks.Ā āHydra send you?āĀ
āNah,ā Bruce says.Ā āHydra canāt really send anyone in here, itās private property. You only got in because youāre Winter Soldier.āĀ
āYou know who I am?āĀ
āItās pretty hard to not recognize you,ā Bruce admits.Ā āWeāve been looking for you for a while. Well, the other Avengers have.ā Bucky gets off the tree.Ā āYou wanna, um, maybe get some dinner? I donāt know if your metabolism is like Steveās, but Iām betting you havenāt eaten in a whileāāĀ
They eat at a fancy restaurant because Bruce likes vegetarian options. So while heās having a pretty good salad and pasta comboāit was the deal, not like he was going to pass it upāBucky is wolfing down an entree of spaghetti for two people in what looked to be maybe ten minutes. He wasnāt even getting sauce around his mouth, which was unfair.Ā
āSo, why didnāt you look for me?ā Bucky asks.Ā āSince apparently, Iām hot stuff for you guys.ā Bruce snorts, adjusting his glasses.Ā
āNo offense to you or anything, but I figure that if you wanted to be found, it wouldnāt be hard to catch you. So I had more important things to do, like piss of the army and solve some environmental problems.ā Bucky nods, stealing a bit of Bruceās pasta.Ā āMy pasta, James.āĀ
āIām a brainwashed assassin, Iām pretty sure you can spare some pasta,ā he responds. Bruce shrugs; yeah, probably.Ā
He doesnāt tell anyone on the team. Doesnāt really think they need to know, especially because James doesnāt exactly want them to know about him yet. But Hulk will see him on missions, sniping the agents that get a hair too close. He grins at Hulk, saluting.Ā
Bruce takes him a picnic on the park. Thereās fancy sparkling cider, a prank pulled, and smiles. Bucky now hates the taste of La Croix and refuses to even think about trying any other sparkling water out there.Ā
They go other places. Bucky likes to try new restaurants and loves Indian food, which makes Bruce very happy.Ā
They hold hands a month later when Bruce sees a politican he recognizes and wants to hide so that he doesnāt get technically kidnapped.Ā
Bucky kisses him when theyāre stargazing.Ā
He comes home three months in when heās sick and Bruce makes him black bean soup.Ā
From All Eternals Deck #2Ā (look, I finally saw Thor: Ragnarok and feel newly invested in making sure Bruce gets to Greenland and the goat farm, okay?):
"Well, hey, ifyou turn big and green whenever you're in danger I definitely can't hurt you,"Barnes pointed out with a crooked smile. "I don't think anything in theworld could hurt you when you're like that--HYDRA sure didn't stand a fuckingchance. That's why I brought us here.ā

Fic: Your Head Nestled Beneath My Chin (Bruce/Bucky + dogs)
@feanorinleatherpants asked for sick-day ficĀ set in the same AU asĀ Look About (All the Stars Are Coming Out), about Bucky and his Ovcharka, Boof. This isĀ somewhat earlier (...eight songs earlier in All Eternals Deck), and I donāt know that reading Look About first will make it make more sense, strictly speaking, but... at least youāll have an idea of what youāre getting?
The dogs were supposed to be for the goats.
That had been the idea, when Bucky brought home four more goats to be company for the one Bruce had accidentally acquired--they had a herd, at that point, and they needed dogs to guard them. And once they had dogs to guard them, it only made sense to add more goats to the herd, because two Ovcharkas for five goats was obviously overkill.Ā
The dogs were working dogs, though. Not pets. Bucky trained them, all the time fighting down memories of teaching little girls, working with the assets who had been meant to supercede him and turned out to be too aggressive to be controlled.
Ovcharkas, by comparison, were easy to manage. Bucky was strong enough to master them by force if he had to, and once the dogs Ā met Bruce in his Other Guy shape, they knew exactly where they fit in the pecking order.Ā
It was one of those days when it was hard to tell low clouds from the fog, and the whole valley was full of mist. They exchanged pings with the search drones in the morning, just like they did every morning unless they were actually out in the sub checking out a possibility. After that there was nothing much to do--no new building or repair projects to undertake, and the dogs were doing a fine job of managing the goats.
Bruce looked thoughtfully from the gray outside the windows to Bucky, and Bucky gave him a hopeful look.
"Yeah, okay," Bruce said. "We've got to see what the goats do when he shows up, anyway, right?"
Bruce snorted and shook his head and went to change into the enormous shorts that the Other Guy wouldn't tear to shreds. Bucky went outside to see where the animals were, and found that the dogs were keeping all of the goats--there were nine now--on the stretch of grass where Bruce wanted to build a greenhouse, just north of the house and overlooking the ocean.Ā
So they'd get a pretty immediate reaction, anyway.
Bruce stepped outside a second later, squinting without his glasses and shivering a little in the clammy air, holding the huge purple shorts up with one hand. Bucky watched him tally up the animals the same way Bucky had, and then Bruce turned a crooked smile in his direction. "If I spook all of them into the hills, you're gonna have to chase them all down."
"It'll be something to do," Bucky said, returning a slightly wider smile. "Come on, get the experiment started.Ā
Bruce rolled his eyes, and the motion flowed smoothly into him turning slightly away as he went green, growing in a second into the giant.
Bucky jumped in the next second at a chorus of human-sounding screams, and ran toward the sound automatically. He realized a couple of strides in that the sound was the goats. He hadn't known they could make that noise.
The dogs were barking too--each one was a deep bass crack of sound like very small booms of thunder. They were circling around the goats, keeping them together, and just as Bucky reached them, one of the dogs bolted in his direction. Bucky planted his feet and threw up his metal arm, but the dog--he really had to name them, just to be able to say easily, the-slightly-bigger-one-with-darker-ears--ran past him to go after Bruce, barking his fool head off.Ā
Clearly he accepted that Bucky had taken his place on guard duty, so he could go press the attack.
Bucky turned to watch what happened next. He was pretty sure Bruce, even big and green, wouldn't hurt one of their dogs, and obviously the dog couldn't hurt Bruce, but...
Bruce raised one enormous green hand in the palm-out gesture Bucky had taught the dogs, and said, in a bass rumble bigger than the dogs' barking, "Halt."
The dog's feet slid under him as he tried to stop his charge, his barking cutting off sharply in confusion.
The dog who had stayed with the goats kept barking for a few seconds, and Bucky turned toward him. He didn't think when he opened his mouth, just did his own impression of a thundercloud to get in on the theme. "Boof! Boof!"
The barking dog stopped, staring at Bucky in confusion. ThatĀ wasn't one of the commands he'd taught them.
He heard Bruce say in his giant's voice, "Good dog," and looked to see the other dog being picked up in enormous green hands like a puppy, flipped onto its back in Bruce's arms.Ā
Bucky looked back to the nearer dog--his dog, for the moment, as the other dog was the Other Guy's. The goats had quieted down in the absence of an actual threat from the Other Guy, and the dog was still staring at Bucky like he was waiting for Bucky to teach him what Boof meant.
"Doesn't mean anything, pal," Bucky said, walking over to the dog. "Just a noise. Got your attention, though, huh? Boof?"
The dog stepped closer, nosing at Bucky's hands.
"Guess that's as good a name as I'm gonna come up with for you," Bucky said, rubbing one hand behind the dog's ears.Ā
It only occurred to him as he said it that he had been waiting. He had meant to let Steve make up names for the dogs, the same way Steve had named him, when he was a kid complaining that there were too many Jameses on his street and Buchanan wasn't hardly a name at all.
Steve wouldn't have named a dog Boof. But Steve wasn't here--not yet. Maybe not ever, like Bruce had reminded him so many times. And even if they were working dogs, they deserved to have names.
"Boof," Bucky repeated, crouching down.Ā
Boof licked his face, which seemed like a deal, and Bucky slung an arm around his neck.
"Boof, halt," he said after a moment, holding up his hand, and Boof laid off the licking and looked at him attentively.Ā
"Good dog," he muttered, and Boof pushed closer again, pressing his huge head against Bucky's chest.
Bucky ducked his head and held on to the huge dog, reminding himself that what he and Bruce had here, it was enough. Even if they never found Steve, even if they were wrong... it was enough. This was enough. This was good, here. This could be a life, free enough and safe enough in this valley by the sea.Ā
He turned his head after a while to see what the other dog--Other Dog? It wasn't much worse, as a name, than Boof--was up to with the Other Guy.
Bruce had sat down, and Other Dog looked puppy-sized in his enormous lap, wriggling around as Bruce rubbed his belly.Ā
Bruce looked up and saw Bucky looking at him, and said, "Okay?"
Bucky nodded, giving Boof a few more skritches. "Okay."Ā
Bruce raised one big green hand, pointing with a thick finger. "Okay?"
Bucky looked, and realized that all the damn goats had run off into the fog. He hid his face against Boof's fur, realizing that Boof had decided it was more important to stay with him than to actually watch the goats.
"Guess now we're gonna have to get more dogs for the goats," he muttered, giving Boof one last scratch before he stood up said, "Boof! Goats!"Ā
Boof's tail wagged once, and he turned and started running. Bucky ran with him into the fog, knowing that between them they could find the goats and get them home.
Took me a while to find a WIP withĀ ābaby,ā but I succeeded! From the prequel toĀ āLook About (All the Stars Are Coming Out)ā which Iāve been referring to in wip status updates asĀ āHow the Winter Soldier Met the Hulkā, so warning for dub-con WS/Hulk sexytimesā¦
He brushed the giantās further nipple with his metal thumbat the same time he licked the edge of the nearer one, and the giantās reactionwas an earthquake under the soldier.
The soldier found he was smiling, almost smirking, as thoughhe had expected that reaction somehow. As though he had done that for someoneelse, once, surprised them with their own sensitivity.
The giantās arm tightened around him, keeping him there, sothe soldier did it again and again while shifting one bare foot to the giantāscrotch, feeling around for some evidence of a reaction. Please react, please be something I can work with.
And then his foot felt the bulge straining against thetattered remnants of the giantās pants, and⦠yeah, that was a reaction. Thatwas a lotĀ of reaction. The angle was bad, but the soldiermanaged to twist enough that he could run his toes along the length of thegiantās cock, a teasing little touch that made the giant gasp and squirm.
āYeah,ā the soldier murmured, thewords feeling easy, familiar, despite the bizarre situation. āThatās it,baby, isnāt that good?ā
