The smell of cedar and hay mixed with cinnamon and apples filled the air of the fall festival. Sofia was thrilled, even if her supposed plans had sort of gone out of the window. It wasn’t that she was upset, seeing as she had been to the festival in the past years by herself too, but with things changing so quickly, she didn’t expect to find herself walking through the aisles of pumpkin lined streets alone this year.
A annual favorite was the haunted house/maze, as Sofia always looked forward to the newest surprises that they brought with each year. So, without any hesitation, she jumped in line, ready to enter with anticipation. It took a few minutes of constant phone checking and scrolling through different social media feeds, but eventually, she found herself at the front of the line, the autumn weather having settled onto a light breeze. She tucked her hands into her coat pockets to fetch the needed tickets to get admitted into haunted house and handed them off over. Pressing on forward, she approached the haunted house doors and let herself in before catching a peek of the inside. The door had already closed behind her as she stepped past the creaky floor boards, so when it opened behind her again, she turned around to see who was joining her.
