BROKEN GROUND, ResidĂȘncia ArtĂstica, Parte I, Hangar, Lisboa 29 Set - 02 Out 2022 Broken Ground is a project initiated by Nii Obodai and Mark Westmoreland that researches the complicated relationship between the wounded history of particular places and the aspirations made possible by transforming the material world into resources. We aim to recognize the past traces and current presence of ancestors and spirits dwelling in these landscapes, who convey humanity's heritage, inform our collective consciousness, and reorient ways of relating to our shared, if broken, planet. We aspire to address these broken terrains in ways that would generate totally different ways of looking at, listening to, and thinking about landscapes. By tending to the transformative conditions of the Anthropocene, the preeminence of extractive capitalism, and the colonial erasure of human diversity, Broken Ground aims to shift the broader conversation about sustainability in ways that foreground the interconnectedness of wounded landscapes.
