The heating in our entire house broke or got turned off the day after I called about some of our apartment's heaters acting up.
Apparently someone is coming to "look at it" on "Monday, maybe Tuesday", based on a call one of the neighbors had on Friday.
It's less than 15°C in our apartment, except the living room, if we keep the door closed and run two oil space heaters.
The bedroom is cold, so we're sleeping in three layers of clothing under winter blankets with heated seed pillows.
We can't keep the dogs unsupervised while they're dressed, so at night they have a bunch of blankets in their bed and we are hoping it's enough. During the day, their beds are near the heaters.
We have no hot water, so it now takes about 40 minutes to run a bath, if we use the electric kettle and 3 pots on our very efficient stove which we found out can't run 3 spots on full power and will adjust it to whatever doesn't blow the fuse.
At the slightest excuse, we're running every electrical appliance that generates even a tiny bit of heat. The dishes are done promptly. We are on top of all laundry that needs the dryer. I am religiously pressing every seam while testing out my repaired sewing machine. I'm gonna bake cake and cookies like a demon tomorrow, maybe even run a pyro cycle on the oven when it's done.
Life in The Ice-Box
Our heating has crashed and I have never ever felt so cold or felt so much respect for people who live(d) without central heating
I don't like complaining, whenever I do this AVByte song plays in my head
But this feels pretty justified.
IT'S SO COLDDDDD
And when it's cold. People don't function proper. Everything takes a lot longer, even brushing your teeth, since you're freaking shivering with every movement (actually maybe that helps with moving the brush back and forward...) It all feels like so much effort because whatever you do you can't really focus since all you're thinking about is how cold it is!
I've been trying really hard to keep things in perspective. There are a lot worse things that could happen.
At least, we have a roof over our head (one that I'm expecting to start forming icicles any day now)
At least we have plenty of jumpers, and blankets and electric heaters (even if I look somewhat marshmallow-like right now)
At least, if things get really bad and they don't manage to fix it any time soon, we have plenty of neighbours, and friends, and family who would be willing to put us up for a few nights
At least the shower still works (now, that would be really bad!)
At times like this I really marvel at how people used to live, and can survive in awful conditions.
It's not even that cold yet (shudder)
Am I really that spoilt that I can't survive a slightly chilly atmosphere?
So whilst I huddle deep inside my pillow nest, dreading the moment I need to vacate my sanctuary for the cruel morning chill I'm going to appreciate:
Warm Fluffly Oversized Jumpers
Hot Drinks (any are good)
Electric Heaters
An Imperfect, But At Least Solid House
The Internet To Which I Can Rant
Great.
So the heating is broken in the warehouse I work in and its just died in my office upstairs, so soon thats going to be freezing cold too.
Goddamn Winter.
Goddamn crappy heating system.
