He got a new job. He works in a prison as a security guard.

They gave him his uniform yesterday for an inspection at 5:30 this morning. He called me ans asked “Can you do hems?” I said I could, thinking it’d be a normal rolled hem or something. He came home and was describing how he wanted it.

He said he wanted them hemmed like our respective ROTC dress uniforms. I got bored in class one day and checked; they were a blind hem. I gave him an example to be sure. He said, “Yes, like that.”

Whatever, I had a blind hem foot because I wanted to learn how to hem that way. After an hour of fiddling with my machine and tension issues, I hemmed them. He was satisfied.

I was up when he was up (because of my phone drama) but there’s no use in asking about it when he hasn’t had it. When I left to visit a friend at Ball State, he still wasn’t home. I came home and he was skyping his friends. Don’t bother him is the general rule when that’s happening.

He comes out of his room and I ask, “How’d the inspection go?” He walked back and said, “I almost failed.”

Incredulous, I ask, “Why?”

He says, “They were hemmed wrong.”

The person who went over regulations with them wanted them hemmed the way I did it. The inspector? Didn’t care. He was yelled at for being too fancy and asked why he didn’t just use hem glue, or do a normal hem??

After my stressful day, I started sobbing about hems while he stood and laughed.
