The sheriff hat of life.

We know that Rick got shot in the line of duty and he was in a coma and he somehow survived weeks without medical intervention. He wore the hat first.

Then he gave it to Carl and then Carl was shot in the abdomen on the farm and survived because of Hershel Greene, a veterinarian.

And then Beth wore it. We had a flashback at the end of Season 4, to this scene of Rick, Carl and Hershel in the garden. 

Then Beth comes along with baby Judith and she gets the hat put on her, from Rick, the original owner of the hat, just like he passed it on to Carl.

Why did we get this scene? Why was this specific moment chosen as a flashback. It was Rick’s memory here. His conversation with Hershel and teaching Carl about farming.

But why was Beth brought in??? There was zero reason for her to be in this scene apart to get that hat. That hat that saved these other two character’s lives. 

And Beth was shot and had zero help from a functioning hospital with a real doctor.

Let’s say that again.....

A FUNCTIONING HOSPITAL WITH A REAL DOCTOR!!!

When people say that Beth Greene was just a babysitter. She offered nothing to the group?

First off....she had plenty to offer the group. She had fence duty and helped clean and cook. She may not have been the best hand to hand fighter but I bet even Rick Grimes couldn’t get walker blood stains out of a shirt.

Second....have you ever taken care of a newborn? That shit is hard. While others were on runs and taking care of walkers, she was the one who was feeding that baby every 2-4 hours, getting up in the night to change her diapers, being spit-up on, pooped on, peed on, vomited on. She had to figure out what that baby wanted, and guess what, babies like to cry for the hell of it sometimes so really, if you wanna take on a newborn, I know plenty of people who would give you that chance for 24 hours. See how long you last!
