I have another Briensa art comm to share this Christmas week! This one is by @cj-k (@CJ_KhalifP on Twitter) and it is based on my newest Briensa fic, Spring in the Widow’s Tower. It’s been a while since the last update but I’ve written quite a bit ahead — it’s just a matter of finishing what comes next.

How I feel about this character

I love Brienne of Tarth with all my heart. I find her story so endearing and tragic, to be the love-struck, idealistic little girl, the beast to beauty and the beast, and the gallant knight all wrapped up in one package.

All the people I ship romantically with this character

Jaime in both show and book canon, Sansa in book canon, and Catelyn in show canon. I’ve also read a few good Brienne/Margaery fics so I suppose I’ll add her too

My non-romantic OTP for this character

Podrick Payne! Her little squire just wants to do his best!

My unpopular opinion about this character

I love Gwendoline Christie, but she’s too gorgeous to play Brienne. I would have preferred a casting that more reflected her book description, because part of the importance of Brienne is that she’s not “beautiful” on the outside. She’s the best, bravest, noblest person on the continent- but everyone scoffs at her the moment they see her, and it’s not just because she’s tall.

Brienne of Tarth should be a little off-putting before she blows everyone away with her heart that shines like a star.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

There she was, Sansa Stark entered the cafe looking adorably prim and proper with books in one hand and a lemonade glass in the other. Brienne didn't miss how her long red curls fell around her shoulders and how those luscious locks shined and bounced as Sansa looked around for her. She's like a princess out of a fairytale, Brienne thought dreamily. All she wanted to do was kiss Sansa right then and there in front of everyone so that they knew that she was off limits. Alas! That could never be, she reminded her restless heart, Sansa was only her friend and a student at the self defense class Brienne taught. Sansa had been through a bad breakup and probably didn't want to start something new and Brienne didn't want to mess up their friendship so she sucked it up. If only she could act on her feelings, if only it was that simple. Brienne sighed and held up a hand to get her attention from across the room.

As Sansa looked around the room, she made up her mind. Today would be the day she will tell Brienne what was on her mind, and how she felt. It had been driving Sansa insane, the past few weeks of intense eyelocks, Brienne's eyes lingering on her lips and her hands on Sansa's body in their Self defense classes were making Sansa want to do unspeakable things to her self defense teacher! It was more than just sexual attraction thougth, Brienne was kind, gentle, strong and respectful just like how Sansa always imagined her partner to be. Sometimes Sansa found herself getting jealous of other members at the class if Brienne spent too much time with them. Seriously how was Brienne still single? So, she decided, she was going to ask Brienne out today no matter what! Her mind was made up and nothing was going to change it... but as her eyes found hers across the room Sansa felt her heart pounding uncontrollably in her chest and the familiar sensation of nervousness took over. If only Sansa could read Brienne's thoughts, then things would be so easy.

This was my first time writing this pairing without it being a modern AU, so it was a bit of challenge, but as always they are my own OTP, so it was a pleasure.

Brienne courts Sansa from afar.

Thank you @novembermorgon for bringing this scene from the Hounds of Harrenhal to life with such a beautiful work of art! The events of the fic (within an AU where Sansa is Robb’s twin) are set off when a mystery knight in the Hound’s helm shows up to Alayne and Harrold Arryn’s wedding tourney. Only, the knight beneath the helm is not who Sansa expects.

“A Kingsguard cloak, yes. Sandor Clegane left it with me the night of the Blackwater, the night he deserted Joffrey’s cause. I suppose I kept it to remember that even as powerful and as frightful man as him could offer mercy to a girl like me. I could have made my flight with him that night but I did not trust him enough to overcome my fear. Perhaps I was right not to trust him entirely, but flying away is all I dream of these days,” the lady explained with a wistful look as she held the cloak high to unravel its full length. “I suppose you’re about the right size to wear it, too.”

She may not have trusted one Hound enough to flee with him, but this new one… Well, I suppose you will just have to read.
