I needed this. Like Ethan Hawke’s character in Paul Schrader’s brilliant new film FIRST REFORMED, I’ve become part of “despair” culture where a 24/7 news cycle has inebriated us leading us to believe the sun will not rise tomorrow. I’ve seen some brilliant films in the last 2 months, FIRST REFORMED, BEAST, LEAN ON PETE, DISOBEDIENCE, HEREDITARY, RBG and WON’T YOU BE MY NEIGHBOR. All are worth your time and reflect a ever changing society of lost souls trying to find their place in the world and in the latter two, their impact on the world. I had heard about HEARTS BEAT LOUD about a father-daughter who create a song, upload it to Spotify where it’s picked up for one of their in house playlists,. Nick Offerman is the Dad, a former musician and record store owner while Kiersey Clemons plays his daughter, who is about to leave New York for California where she is going to study at UCLA to become a doctor. The film is breezy at less than 100-minutes, but it’s an inoculation of joy. The greatest compliment I can ever give a movie is that I wish I could spend more time with these characters. They’re fixtures of the neighborhood and has some superb supporting performances by Ted Danson, Toni Collete (a treasure) and Sasha Lane best known from ‘American Honey’. The music in the film is infectious and rather incredible. Keegan DeWitt has crafted a few indie pop songs that I’ll listen to for the rest of my life. Run, don’t walk, to the theater for this movie. #HeartsBeatLoud #Movies #Soundtrack #musicsaves #nickofferman #music #movie #movienight #movietime🎬 #kierseyclemons #teddanson #blythedanner #sashalane #tonicollette #bretthaley #keegandewitt
