CFMOTO and Brembo Sign Global Strategic Partnership to Expand Technology and Racing Collaboration
CFMOTO has announced a long-term global strategic partnership with Brembo, marking a significant milestone in the Chinese manufacturerโs international development. The agreement, signed on July 8 in Hangzhou, makes CFMOTO the first Chinese motorcycle brand to establish a strategic partnership with the Italian braking specialist.
The two companies are no strangers to each other. CFMOTO has worked with Brembo for 17 years, with Brembo braking components already featured on many of the brand's production motorcycles. The new agreement, however, expands the relationship beyond component supply to include joint development in technology, product engineering, motorsport, and brand collaboration.
Under the partnership, Brembo will be involved much earlier in the motorcycle development process. Engineers from both companies will jointly develop braking system concepts, carry out calibration and validation, and optimize system integration from the initial design stage. The goal is to deliver braking performance that is better matched to each motorcycle platform while improving safety, control, and rider confidence. The collaboration is also expected to accelerate the introduction of race-derived braking technologies into future CFMOTO large-displacement motorcycles. By combining Brembo's expertise in high-performance braking systems with CFMOTOโs growing engineering capabilities, both companies aim to develop motorcycles with higher levels of performance and handling.
Motorsport will play an equally important role in the partnership. CFMOTO has steadily expanded its presence in Grand Prix racing, securing multiple race victories and championship titles in Moto2 and Moto3 over the past three seasons. Brembo, meanwhile, has supplied braking technology to top-level international racing for more than five decades and remains one of the benchmark names in MotoGP.
Beyond racing technology, the two companies also plan to collaborate on brand activities and rider development programs. Brembo will become a strategic partner in CFMOTO's talent development initiatives, supporting the training of future motorcycle racers in China. For CFMOTO, the agreement represents another step in strengthening its global technology network. As the company continues to expand its presence in international markets, closer cooperation with established industry leaders such as Brembo is expected to play an important role in enhancing both product competitiveness and global brand recognition.

World SBK to introduce Brembo Carbon-Ceramic Brakes from 2027
At the Misano round of the 2026 season, world sbk announced an extension of its partnership with Brembo. As part of the renewed agreement, Brembo will introduce its new "Hyction" carbon-ceramic brake system to the championship from the 2027 season onwards.
The new technology will replace the steel brake discs currently used in world sbk. According to Brembo, the carbon-ceramic system offers several advantages, including reduced weight, improved durability, and greater braking efficiency. One of the most significant benefits is a weight saving of approximately 1.5 kilograms, which could provide teams with greater setup flexibility and improved overall performance.
The Hyction system is also expected to deliver more consistent braking performance over longer distances while reducing wear compared to conventional steel brakes.

There's an article from Milano Finanza about Brembo stocks plunging after Charles' statement. Funnily, no one initially thought about Brembo until they opened their mouth lol
Dopo lโincidente, il pilota Ferrari punta il dito contro il sistema frenante e apre allโuso di una nuova tecnologia usata giร da Hamilton ch
I mean, even Mercedes doesn't use the brakes Lewis uses. Clearly, Ferrari once again couldn't fix the endless problem with their standard brakes and decided to try what Lewis demanded. Lewis's brakes had their own issues, including the lico, but at least they worked. And if you put all this together, do you even understand what we're dealing with?
Instead of the nearly disastrous standard brakes, the team will be forced to use very specific and equally problematic brakes that are probably not suitable for anyone but Lewis. And in the midst of all this, they're trying to convince us that Lewis, the savior, is pushing the team forward. Don't tell me you don't see a repeat of the second half of 2022 and the whole of 2023. I simply won't believe you.
So are all the sources defining the Carbon Industrie disks "those that Lewis had been used to from his time in Mercedes" just lying? Is that what you're implying by saying "even Merc doesn't use those brakes"?
The LiCo because of overheating brakes was a problem of 2025, when Lewis was using the same Brembo spec as Charles. They did change a component on Lewis's brakes to make him more comfortable, but it was still a Brembo thing (and iirc it was a change of material among the ones available) and in any case the SF-25 had a million more other problems.
Clearly the vagaries of these regulations and the tyre cooling through the braking system (that Merc also has) do not work well with Brembo brake disks. Now, Lewis had his CI disks+Brembo everything else combo since Japan, and his performance up to Miami was level with Charles - which is I think is what they saw on the data during pre-season testing and made the team accept to have him try it - it made him more comfortable and it caused neither a fall or a weird rise of performance.
Some people have hypothesized that the Miami upgrades (which I think included the aforementioned "tyre cooling through brakes") are what made the Brembo combo go to shit, and I suspect it came out in Canada because that track is harsher on the brakes than others. Now, one instance doesn't make proof in any data collection situation, and Charles may have thought that maybe, considering he struggles in Canada anyway, it was just a crazy one-off event. By the way he spoke about it, it makes me think that he had discussed with the team about using Lewis's combo instead (which also means that it wasn't a secret to him), but since the following race was Monaco - completely different from Montreal, anomalous in so many ways, somewhere where he has immense confidence - he decided to not add a new variable and see if, again, maybe Canada was a perfect storm of low temps/uncomfortable setup.
Turns out it wasn't.
Should the team have told him "look man, this isn't doable, let's put you on Lewis's combo for FP3 and just ball it, at least we will be sure you will be able to brake"? YES. And it's EXTREMELY BAD that they didn't. I'm not justifying them at all on this. Charles deserves all the apologies they can muster and then some for this.
That said, I don't believe in "they are developing the car around Lewis". They have both given input, but engineers don't build cars around drivers. Laws of aerodynamics don't give a shit about driving styles (just look at how Newey designed the Aston Martin). There's a high chance that if Lewis had kept the all-Brembo combo, Charles's brake problems would have hit him too, and the situation would be 10 times worse because we would have TWO drivers in the wall and no idea how to fix it. At least with this unexpected comparison they have a potential solution to go with. Lewis's problems can probably be hashed out with different upgrades/data mining, but at least his brakes are consistent, which is what Charles wants (per his words).
(I will also say, the way in which Brembo IMMEDIATELY jumped at Charles's throat with that hissy fit of a PR statement and IN THE SPAN OF TWO HOURS the most reliable Italian source for Ferrari news had an article ready about all the behind the scenes of the brakes in the team when we hadn't heard A PEEP of it until yesterday... I think relations were already strained, and Brembo lashing out at Charles pissed Ferrari off enough to let certain things be uncovered despite the bad optics that would hit them too. Which is unprecedented.)
Lewis fans saying he is the driving force moving the team forward is something they are allowed to think and also something I don't necessarily agree with. Like, I'm sure Ferrari hired him for his experience and that his feedback is valuable. From that to calling him "the savior of the team" there's a chasm. I don't see any narrative being pushed from Ferrari itself (and no, F1twt and clickbait magazines do NOT count. For the love of god.)
I wasn't here for 2022 and 2023, so I'm not commenting on similarities.
