Savor the traditional Old-Fashioned Sour Cream Doughnuts, which have a crispy outside and a soft, cake-like inside. Ideal as a sweet treat with coffee or for breakfast!
Ingredients: 2 cups all-purpose flour. 1/2 cup granulated sugar. 2 tsp baking powder. 1/2 tsp baking soda. 1/2 tsp salt. 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg. 1/2 cup sour cream. 2 large eggs. 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted. 1 tsp vanilla extract. Vegetable oil for frying.
Instructions: Mix the flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg in a bowl. Combine the sour cream, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract in a separate bowl. The wet and dry ingredients should be combined to form a soft dough. Avoid over-mixing. On a surface dusted with flour, roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1/2 inch. Using a doughnut cutter or a round cutter fitted with a smaller cutter for the holes, cut out doughnuts. In a deep pan, heat the vegetable oil to 350F 175C. Fry the doughnuts carefully in batches, turning them over after two to three minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown. To drain excess oil, transfer the fried doughnuts to a tray lined with paper towels. Before glazing or dusting with powdered sugar, let them cool slightly.
