The kiss begins quietly, like every other one.
It’s the slow and inevitable leaning-in of two bodies already attuned to the same temperature. His mouth finds yours with a softness that feels almost hallucinatory, as though the air around you has thickened and your movements are taking place underwater. In certain ways, they are. His lips are warm, hot, and when they part, you taste the faint metallic heat of the blood he has not fully swallowed.
It should concern you.
It doesn’t.
Your hands rise to his face. You trace the curve of his cheekbone, the line of his jaw, the place where stubble meets fever-flushed skin. His eyes flutter closed at the touch. When you kiss him deeper, his breath trembles, and you love it so.
You tell him that, and he chuckles.
You feel his heartbeat under your palm, rapid and uneven, not frantic but alive, and the realization settles that you are experiencing the same rhythm, the same pulse-speed, the same heat rising beneath the surface of your skin.
He pulls back only enough to look at you, his thumb touching the damp edge of your lower lip. The blood that had stained his own has smeared onto your mouth, and he sees it. His expression shifts.
You’re fully his now.
He touches the blood gently with two fingers and draws it across your jaw, the smear warm and thin, then down along your neck, following the line where your pulse beats. It makes you shiver. So does he.
The undressing is slow, for the act is about revealing. Fabric slides over skin. You peel his white undershirt upward and he lifts his arms to let it go, and the sight of him—pale, freckled, lean with the slight hollowness of someone who lives in a constant negotiation with his own body—makes your chest ache and your core tighten over nothing—yet.
He undoes your clothing with the same patience, his hands steady even as they tremble slightly from the fever. His fingertips drag along your ribs, your back, your shoulder blades, learning the shape of you through touch rather than sight.
The two of you lie back into the sheets and your bodies naturally fold into one another, the blanket half-kicked aside, heat rising between you like breath made visible in the cold.
His mouth finds your throat, pressing into the place where your pulse beats hardest, where the skin is thin and warm. He breathes you in, and your hands slide into his hair, fingers threading through the soft, sweat-warmed ginger strands. His lips move along the line of your neck, they then reach your breasts and their hardened peaks. He suckles on them until they turn raw and red, and you can’t take it anymore, for in your current state neither of you would be surprised if your body acted strange and decided to produce milk.
Not that he would mind.
His voice comes low, rasped from fever and closeness, spoken against your mouth rather than into the air.
“You’re the only one,” he whispers, the words thick with truth, “who knows what it feels like to be inside my skin.”
You come from those words alone.
There is no single moment when kissing becomes something more; it is a gradual leaning, a deepening, the widening of a space that had already existed between your bodies. One of his hands slides beneath your knee, lifting, opening you, and your body yields in an instant, as though it has always known how to fit against his. It probably has.
The fever has loosened everything, muscle, restraint, unwelcome thoughts, and what remains is instinct.
Your legs curve over his shoulders, your thighs framing the line of his neck, your calves brushing the warm skin of his back. The angle is intimate and exposing, a position that makes your heart beat high in your throat. He’s since learned that he likes to fuck you in different ways, but this—here—is his favorite. He looks at you as he moves into place. His eyes are flushed with heat and awe. You wish to drown in them.
He pauses before claiming the position fully, his hands warm at the backs of your thighs, holding you open with force that makes your breath falter. His face hovers above yours. It’s flushed, fever-bright, unbearably focused. You feel his breath against your mouth, heated and tasting faintly metallic, as if the sickness in both of you has altered even the air passing between your lips.
“Look at me,” he murmurs, and when you do, some internal calibration aligning around the sight of your widened eyes, your parted lips, your open cunt and your pulse beating urgently in your throat—settles.
His voice drops, low and clinical but almost painfully gentle.
“You know what we’re doing,” he says. “What we’ve been doing since the moment you let me taste you.”
His thumb drags slowly along the inside of your knee, then up, tracing the heat of your fever-warm skin.
“You’re changing,” he continues, “and so am I. The symptoms match. The timing matches. Our bodies are already synchronized.” His breath shudders. “But it isn’t complete yet.”
Your fingers curl on the sheets.
He leans in closer to explain, as if lecturing over a specimen, as if the intimacy is secondary to the truth he needs you to understand.
“When a pathogen finds its proper host,” he whispers, “it doesn’t thrive at the surface. It moves inward. It settles. It makes the body remake itself around the intrusion.” His lips brush the edge of your jaw in a fleeting, burning line. “That’s what this is.”
“According to what I’ve gathered, you’re currently ovulating,” he adds.
You swallow, hard.
“Syd—”
He shakes his head once, decisive.
“You’re ripe. I’m not hurting you,” he says. “I’m finishing what we started.”
His fingers slide higher on your thighs, holding you open for him, the heat of his palms grounding and claiming.
“I have to spill inside you,” he says with the cool certainty of a man stating a medical necessity. “To complete the exchange. To let our bodies recognize one another fully. To make the connection stable.”
Your breath stutters.
“Connection?”
A smile touches his fevered mouth.
“You want it too,” he murmurs. “I feel it. Every time you shake. Every time we sweat into each other. Every time you let me touch you when you’re burning up.”
His forehead dips to yours, and his next words land soft, devastating:
“Let me complete you. Let me finish what the fever began.”
Your entire body trembles. It’s part illness, part want.
“And once I breed you,” he breathes, “you’ll understand why I chose you.”
When he finally enters you, it is slow but far from gentle.
He presses forward in one long, unbroken motion, sinking into you with a fullness that steals the breath from your lungs. The stretch is deep, almost too much, the depth that feels like being touched from the inside out, a pressure that borders on pain but unfurls into pleasure as your body opens to take him in. Your fingers clutch at his bruised forearms, holding yourself steady against the intensity, but he holds the back of your thighs carefully, with love.
Is it?
He exhales through his teeth, eyes closing for a moment. His forehead dips toward your shoulder, his breath warm against your collarbone, and you feel the tremor in his body you know now by heart.
He draws back only enough to move, and then pushes forward again, deeper, as if trying to disappear into your core, to dissolve the border between your bodies. The motion is slow at first, testing, learning how your body responds, how the heat of your cunt pulls and tightens around him. The way it nearly teasingly resists him—sometimes, but always obliges in the end, makes him spiral. Your hands slide up into his hair, your fingers curling, grounding yourself in the warmth of his scalp, his breath, the pulse beneath his skin.
The rhythm builds inevitably.
His thrusts are deep enough that you feel them reverberate through your ribs, through your spine. Pressure that gathers low in your stomach and spreads outward. Your breath catches on each movement, a soft sound leaves your throat. It is more a whimper than a moan, and Syd loves it.
His hands tighten at the backs of your thighs, pulling you closer, drawing him deeper still. Your bodies meet with a sound, and that’s warm skin striking warm skin. It’s sharp, rhythmic, intimate in its rawness.
Slap-slap-slap.
Push-push-push against your cervix.
He loves the fact that he can hit it directly in this position.
You feel him everywhere. He’s inside you, around you, beneath your hands, in the breath you draw and the heat that surrounds your body like a second skin. He lowers himself further, your legs still draped over his shoulders, folding you together in a shape that feels impossible and necessary at once.
Your voice trembles with every movement. You can only make broken, breathless sounds you can’t hold back, and Syd swallows each one, his mouth pressing to your throat, your jaw, your lips, as though each belongs to him.
And it does.
Hiss. Hiss. Hiss.
His breath pushes out against your cheek, fever-warm and uneven.
“You feel—” he begins, but the sentence dissolves.
Instead, he pushes deeper into you like a man starved. Like you yourself are in heat, and he’s happy to mate with you. As though depth is the only language either of you can speak now.
His movements slow, then gather, then slow again. It seems to you that his body cannot decide whether to prolong the moment or surrender to it.
You feel him try to stay inside the motion. He tries to breathe through it, to keep the moment open just a beat longer. The restraint is beautiful, heartbreaking in its tenderness, and then—
It breaks.
He presses deep enough that the world narrows to a single point of contact, and you feel him spill inside you in one long, unstoppable release.
He pants, he whines, he moans.
His whole body shudders with it, a tremor that begins in his spine and radiates outward, his shoulders curling, his fingers tightening where they hold you as if he’s decided that the act itself is an unmaking.
He makes a sound against your throat, and it’s nearly animalistic. It’s relief.
“We need to make sure that it takes,” he mutters, more to himself than to you.
Before you can catch your breath, his hand slides between your thighs. Two fingers press into your core, gathering what threatens to escape and pushing it back into you with a careful insistence. His other hand holds your hip steady as he works his fingertips deeper into your warmth, making sure it takes—indeed—every slow push a wordless promise stamped into your body.
When it is done, he gathers you. He could never be selfish enough to strip either of you off such pleasure.
Your legs slide down from his shoulders, and your bodies unfold into a softer shape. He pulls you to his chest, one arm around your back, the other cupping the side of your face as you’re his to protect. His breath is still unsteady, and you feel the aftershocks still moving through him.
His voice comes quietly: “Did I hurt you? …Too much?”
“No,” you whisper, and your lips touch the hollow of his throat that you so love to caress.
He exhales, long and shaking, his body finally gives in to rest, and your pulses begin to match again.
Ah-live. Ah-live. Ah-live.

When the morning arrives, it finds you slowly.
The fever has loosened its grip on both of you; the heat has settled, steady now instead of consuming. Your breaths move easier, your bodies draped in a warm, familiar exhaustion.
Syd is behind you, one arm around your waist. His lips brush the side of your temple in a kiss so absentminded and natural it feels like something he has always done. The blanket is pulled over both of you, soft and heavy, your legs tangled beneath it, your bodies fitting together like perfect puzzle pieces. On the small television at the foot of the couch in his living room, Hannah Geist’s funeral plays in muted color. It’s one of the endless reruns, a spectacle repackaged as mourning. Neither of you comment on it. You watch, not only for her, but because the ritual of viewing is familiar, background, almost comforting.
Syd hands you a glass of orange juice, and you drink it in slow sips, passing it back and forth between your fingers. The sweetness lingers in your mouths, and when you eat the small square sandwiches he has bought, crumbs gather at the corners of your lips. You kiss them off each other without thinking, mouths dancing with the tiniest affection.
The bedside table holds the only objects that acknowledge what you have been through, and what you’re about to create.
Two thermometers resting together in a single glass of cooling water. Side by side.
Unopened pregnancy tests. Two—for good measure.
Inseparable.

ends here, but I take requests. 👀 drop a prompt/idea or a blurb if you have one.
shhhhh. listen to me. there's something horrendously erotic about a man driven so mad with obsession that he's willing to disease himself just to be close to you. to be entwined on a biological, chemical level: infecting himself so you can become one. how could you resist that kind of devotion? 😳💖
