To make a VERY long story VERY short:
We found out that the dangly bits of our cerebellum are like. Hanging outside of our skull? And being squished along with our spinal cord and probably our brain stem. This set-up has been causing symptoms for years but constantly straining at work has been doing extra squishing and now we might need surgery. So we may not be active until after that is sorted. We'll be seeing yet another specialist tomorrow and by October we'll probably have seen three more.
We will uh. Post updates as we're able.
At the neurosurgeon's office appointment I brought up the thing where I feel fine while walking but if I just stand in one place for a while I start to feel weird.
The doctor said that she'd never had brain surgery but she'd talked to thousands of people who had, and that sometimes weirdness like that just happens and it'll probably get better over time.
I don't know why, but when she said that I felt a bit validated. Like oh, yeah, I had brain surgery.
Also looking at my posts and emails and texts from the first few days after the surgery where I was all "pain, endless forever pain, my head hurts a lot, don't have brain surgery if you can help it because pain, pain, pain, pain."
Also thinking about when I felt okay enough to try walking outside for the first time and how slow and short that walk was but now I'm all yeah let's walk two miles at near normal speed!
I did it and I survived and I'm getting so much better, but it really was a whole thing, wasn't it?

I know why brain surgery is done with local anesthetic instead of general anesthesia. But I cannot imagine anyone going through brain surgery can go through it without being fully sedated without freaking the fuck out.
