Splitlocked, Devaluation Splitlocked, Idealization Splitlocked (as roles)

Splitlocked - An alter, or perhaps group of alters, that continues to holds the opinions regarding an individual, thing, or concept from an episode of splitting between extremes of idealization and devaluation. For example if the episode of splitting was because of a violation of trust and the overarching system or many alters go from trust that person to viewing as completely undeserving of having in trust put in them, and then that person eventually regains the trust of most of the system, a splitlocked alter would still view them as completely untrustworthy.

Devaluation Splitlocked - that continues to holds the opinions regarding an individual, thing, or concept from an episode episode of extreme devaluation splitting.

Idealization Splitlocked - that continues to holds the opinions regarding an individual, thing, or concept from an episode episode of extreme idealization splitting. While this does have quite a bit of overlap with split holders, it is different in a couple ways 1) Typically a split holder splits instead of another alter, where as typically an alter being splitlocked means at least one other alter also experienced the same episode of splitting. 2) splitlocked alter are tied to specific instances of splitting, so with the above example the alter would only be tied to the specific instance of trust devaluation and not any other episodes of splitting. They may still experience other splitting but their opinion of that particular person stays the same. Though one alter may be splitlocked on multiple different things. Split holder are not tied to specific instances of splitting, but may be tied to specific types.

Alters being splitlocked is not inherently helpful or harmful to their system, it can be either, both, or nether. On the helpful side of things it can assist the system in remembering how they felt towards an individual, thing, or concept in the past, and possibly help in identifying split triggers. As for how it can be harmful; a devaluation splitlocked alter may treat a person their split on unfairly, a idealization splitlocked alter may try to recontact with someone the rest of the system does not want to see anymore, or alters that are devaluation and idealization splitlocked on the same thing may have very intense conflict with each other every time in comes up.

Here attribute versions of the flags because it can be either a role or an attribute depending and the alter and situation.

Additionally whole subsystems may also be splitlocked.

☁️ — white split holder ; a term for bpd holders that form to hold "white splits" or intense feelings of idolization/attachment to another person, typically their fp(s). This is heavily influenced by the systems BPD & they seem to only front to interact with their fp(s) or people they have consistently high opinions of.

occasionally, this will mean that the alter cannot handle or deal with seeing anything negative about their fp(s), and will not be able to handle any negative discussion of them, even constructive.

Quite often, systems may find they have one member who holds onto particular symptoms of the disorders which affect the whole collective. Symptom holders perform a vital role for their system and help keep everyone functioning, even if it makes their own lives as individuals difficult. Living with borderline personality disorder can be incredibly isolating, frustrating, and painful. For symptom holders who have the role of managing BPD symptoms, we want to remind you that you are loved just the way you are! You are valued, and you are worthy of kindness, happiness, and respect in your lives. We know that trying to manage BPD, sometimes on behalf of your whole system, cannot be easy.
