Small character ref sheet for Diaphonized while I work on something cooler : D
Some notes:
Horizontal slit eyes: helps with peripheral vision and low-light situations, though very nearsighted
Wearing bright colors; outside the norm for borrowers, but since Dream's already caught them, they figure that it's fine
George has better distance vision overall, but sees everything more blurred than the others. Also has the worst daytime vision, but the best nightvision
Dye their clothes with whatever they can get their hands on, patterns vary
Quackity is the only one without a hookâcause he can fly : D

*Ex*terminator AU is basically an AU where Dream is an exterminator who had been fired from his job for a very stupid reason[Saving caged Miniatures(Small Hybrids{Not George & Sapnap}) who were being treated like pets by sneaking them out of the house].
The story kicks off with explaining the scene of him helping the miniatures & getting fired for 'not following protocol' by not calling the cops to deal with it. Dream was {rightfully} a bit peeved, as the cops don't do a good job of actually preventing that stuff from happening in the first place.
But as soon as the explaining of the scene is done, it does a hard snap cut to Dream in a McDonald's drive-thru where it's revealed that Dream was relaying the events to a very tired but patient Technoblade who was working the window [For some reason I find it absolutely hilarious to Invision Technoblade working at a McDonald's drive-thru đš].
Techno, as polite as he can, says "Dream- as much as I'd like to be able to stand here & talk about all the ways the government sucks... I have 30 minutes left on my shift and-" *Points at the line of cars behind Dream's truck[For some reason I imagine that he drives a truck, simply because it's easier to transfer his work stuff.]* "-I have 8 more cars to deal with..." To which Dream then realizes how long he was there for & apologizes before driving off, there's a snippet of a Karen throwing her drink at Techno through the window due to the long wait in the rearview mirror of Dream's truck, with him mumbling "Sorry Techno-".
So then Dream heads over to Antfrost's apartment where there's a long scene of Antfrost, Dream & Velvet{Who's a Mini bat hybrid} chatting until Dream eventually leaves to go home. While Dream is at home, he sees that some of the stuff in his pantry has been riffled through. He thinks that he has rats in the house, so he sets up a simple plastic box trap with a towel over top of it on the kitchen counter & places a small {poisoned} cracker inside before he heads back out the next day.
When he gets home a bit earlier than usual due to not working, he checks the trap & is shocked to see two Small Hybrids, a Bat Borrower & Mouse, inside. The Mouse hybrid appears very ill while the Bat hybrid is standing in a defensive position in front of them. It doesn't take much for Dream to connect the dots that the Mouse hybrid had eaten some of the poisoned cracker.
Not knowing how long ago the poisoned cracker was consumed, Dream tried to move quickly, but also slowly enough to attempt not to spook them. This failed however, as the Bat borrower quickly shuffled to position themself in front of the Mouse hybrid more, protectively curling their long, thin tail around them. Dream tries his best to calm the Borrower down, though the shaking angry squeaks he gets in return do little to pursuade success, leading Dream to believe that there may be a language barrier.
He eventually manages to carefully cup his hands loosely around the pair, but this causes the Bat borrower to attempt to scramble out of the trap while carrying the Mouse hybrid, stumbling to the countertop outside of it. The Mouse hybrid lets out a weak squeak while looking at the Bat hybrid & the Borrower hesitates before swiftly scurrying to a hole in the wall, leaving the Mouse hybrid shaking in front of Dream. Dream flinches before slowly scooping up the tiny, trembling body into his hands, alarm ringing through his head as he feels the slower than normal heartbeat.
He rushes to the bathroom attached to his room before riffling through the mirror cabinets looking for medicine, he eventually finds the small container. Picking up a miniature syringe out of a drawer, he fills the tiny syringe with the medicinal fluid, the Mouse hybrid in his other hand weakly squirming to get away. Dream attempts to soothe the small hybrid, eventually figuring out that the Mouse can understand him & somewhat read, allowing them to see the label on the medicine vial. The Mouse hybrid calms down enough to let Dream give them the syringe to drink the medicine out of, Dream gaining relief when he feels their heartbeat begin to steadily regulate.
Afterwards Dream brings the Mouse hybrid back to the kitchen counter where he gives them two nonpoisonous crackers, showing them that they're not poisoned by eating one out of the pack. The Mouse hybrid then makes their way towards the wall, stumbling a bit, they turn to Dream tiredly waving as they vanish into the shadowed crevice.
Karl heaved as he slammed himself onto the other, "Dang, those humans are more rowdy than you, Sap." He grinned as they both stood there; catching their breath. The raven haired male rolled his eyes, "How much did you eat?" He asked the brunette curiously. Karl sighed as he stared for a moment, "Not much, honestly I'm still a bit hungry."
Sapnap huffed as he bit his lip, "We might have to go out again later, I think those humans are going to 'stream' or something, so they should be in their room's?" He explained, Karl beamed as he continued to walk through the tunnels in the walls; with Sapnap following not too far behind.
The two lived in these walls for years, happy with the fact that only one human was staying there. That was until two other humans came, as rowdy and loud, than they could ever expect. That day, the duo quickly scrambled away to hide.
The days that followed the loud giants stayed and continued to be chaotic and somehow all over the place, which caused them to struggle. And if that wasn't enough, the original human that they enjoyed having their presence with got up and left. To be fair, they heard he would be back, but damn? They were left to deal with these two unknown and wild giants!
Days passed by with the two borrowers struggling to get ahold of food. Occasionally, they'd see a few bits and peices lying around, but it was more or less just left overs, in sum, it's been hectic.
Once they reached their little quarters, they stared at their item's on the ground, having to live in a house with people a hundred times bigger than you made it seem that a task as simple as them walking, feel like an earthquake from their perspective. They quickly picked up the item's that were sprawled across the ground.
They chatted for a few hours, in hopes they could ignore the empty feeling in their stomachs.
It was a rather hard task-
~â¤~
"Sap! One of the humans left a bag of food on the counter!" Karl gleefully announced, the borrower was practically bouncing off the walls as he waited for Sapnap to get ready. The ravenette grinned as he grabbed Karl's hand and dragged him out of their tunnels.
Surprisingly, none of the humans were in the proximity, which made them hastily move towards the counter. The two assisted each other in climbing the furniture. They crept towards the bag and subtly ripping a hole in the back so they could enter.
Karl squealed as he began munching on a discarded fry laying on the bottom of the bag. Sapnap did the same with chicken nuggets, ofcourse neither of them knew the names of the food, but to them, it was delicious and edible.
The two were so ecstatic that they finally ate a decent meal they didn't realize one of the humans standing right outside the paper bag. A looming shadow caught their attention as they stared up.
The two let out a shriek; with the human gasping at the same time. The borrower's quickly scrambled out of the hole they ripped out from the back of the bag and began sprinting towards one of their wall tunnels.
"Hey, wait!" The human said as he tried grabbing the tinies, barely missing their bodies before they entered into the walls. Karl and Sapnap were terrified, bumping into the sides of the wall as they tried heading to their main room.
They both slumped beside the wall; catching their breaths once they knew they were safe. The two shuddered as the moment replayed in their thoughts, Sapnap was the first to speak, "Cmon Karl, let's get to bed..." He said whilst trying to soothe himself and the shaking borrower before him.
~â¤~
"George, I'm telling you I saw these tiny guys eating my food!" The ravenette insisted as he tried convincing the other with the fact. "You're literally seeing things!" Quackity groaned, "Look! They even ripped the back of my bag to get it!" He said, holding up the bag. The brunette rolled his eyes as he let out an exasperated sigh. "That could be rats." He stated before getting up.
"Cmon, we need to go set up for stream!" George said while nudging the other, the ravenette rolled his eyes. During the stream, his thoughts were mixed with focusing on the stream and the miniature human's living in their house.
Meanwhile, Karl and Sapnap were basically just hanging around in their small room until Karl groaned to break the silence, "I'm so boooored-" He whined; he just recently calmed himself down after almost being caught and suddenly being persistent on doing something fun or to Sapnap's opinion, reckless.
"If you really wanna go out, we can go at night." He sighed, turning his head back to do what he was previously doing. The taller brunette sighed as he sat there waiting for nightfall.
Later that evening two were now cautiously roaming around the house, the cat apparently named 'Patches' was no where in sight, which surprisingly upset Karl; the feline was actually warming up to them.
Karl and Sapnap were giggling around as they did stupid stunts around the house. They were sitting on the coffee table in the living room when they both shrieked when a clear plastic container slammed down around them.
"ÂĄMaldiciĂłn! ÂĄTodos ustedes son realmente reales!"
Karl and Sapnap were tightly wrapped together as they stared up at the human, "DREAM, GEORGE, COME HERE!" He screamed, calling out his friends. The two came running in. George's eyes were wide when his gaze fell on the two figures on the coffee table, Dream however had a more worried look.
"Dream!" Karl cried out.
The human mumbled a curse but before he could speak, Quackity spoke.
Hii-, sorry if it's short and disappointing. It actually was hectic recently for međ Our ceiling kinda collapsed and fell on me while I was sleeping, and my teachers have been giving way to many projectsđ
Again, I'm sorry it took so long to write, and if it's badđ

The rest of dinner passed by in a bit of anâŚawkward way. Tubbo was still talking to him and even Dream chimed in a few times but Tommy couldnât stop thinking about everything he had just learned.Â
Before, he liked to think he knew Wilbur pretty well. They had been together for a month and a half and had barely been apart since. Tommy always thought he had a good read on what Wilbur was thinking and feeling.
But now, he had no idea. He had failed to notice that Wilbur wasnât happy, after all. Who knew what else Tommy had misinterpreted over their time together. And he had no idea how Wilbur would react to what Tommy had to tell him. Would he be happy Tommy no longer saw him as a pet? Mad that it took Tommy this long to realize? He couldnât even begin to guess what Wilburâs choice would be either.
Although, if he was in Wilburâs position, leaving sounded pretty good.
âTommy? Are you doing okay?â Tubbo asked, snapping Tommy out of his thoughts. He blinked and looked over at the smaller teen, who was frowning in concern.
âYeah, yeahâŚjust, ya know, thinking.â Tommy said, pulling himself more up on the couch. His plate laid discarded on the coffee table alongside Tubboâs. Dream had finished way before he had even come out into the living room and so he didnât have a plate. He just continued to lean against the wall.
Tubbo gave him a sad smile. âMakes sense, itâs not every day your views are spun on its head.â And yeah, that was a good way to describe what had just happened.
But Tubbo never had to deal with this. Dream was there from the beginning to teach Tubbo how to treat borrowers. Ranboo was probably more than willing to stay when he saw how kind Tubbo was. ButâŚDream knew how he felt, right? After all, he said he had treated Sapnap as a pet the first year they were together before realizing.Â
He turned towards Dream. âHow did you go about everything when you realized Sapnap wasnât a pet?â Tommy asked and Dream jumped in surprise at suddenly being addressed and then tensed when he processed Tommyâs question.
âOh, wellâŚâ He sighed. âIt was a bit different from your situation butâŚafter everything, I gave Sapnap the same choice, to leave or to stay with the promise he wouldnât be treated like a pet anymore.â
âAnd?â Tommy asked, leaning in. He could already guess the outcome though, after all, Sapnap was still here with Dream after all these years.
 âAnd he chose to leave.â
Tommyâs eyes widened. âWait, what? But, heâs here right now! What happened?â
âWell, he left but he never left the house. He started living in the walls like how borrowers used to. And, we kept running into each other and we started building up trust and eventually, Sapnap came out of the walls permanently.â Dream explained, rubbing the back of his neck as he did so.
Tommy bit his lip. âSo, he left but then ended up staying?â When Dream nodded, Tommy became lost in his thoughts again. If thatâs what Wilbur decided to do, itâs possible he could build up trust like Dream did. But there was no guarantee thatâs what Wilbur would do. What if he wanted Tommy to drop him off somewhere else? Or what if he left the house on his own?
Tommy closed his eyes and sighed. He had to be okay with letting Wilbur go permanently, if thatâs what he chose.
Tommy opened his eyes at the sound of shuffling and turned to see Dream no longer leaning against the wall. âIâm gonna head up to where the borrowers are. Make sure you bring up some food for them when you guys are done down here.â Tubbo nodded and then Dream turned and made his way up the stairs.
âI think things will be okay.â Tubbo suddenly said, making Tommy turn to look at him. He was smiling at Tommy and it was almost infectious. âLike I said before, youâre a good person Tommy. Wilbur might trust and like you more than you think.â
Tommy bit his lip but nodded and gave Tubbo a small smile. âThanks Tubs.â The nickname slipped out without him meaning to but when Tubboâs smile just got wider at it, Tommy felt warm.Â
âNow come on, letâs go follow Dream up. And, hey, maybe telling Wilbur while weâre here will make it easier for you.â Tubbo suggested and Tommy nodded. He was still hesitant to see Wilbur at this point. But he knew it wasnât fair to the borrower to prolong the conversation any longer.
The two grabbed their plates and took them to the kitchen. Puffy and Phil looked to be done eating as well but they were still talking. Puffy looked over and smiled at the two of them. âHey! You all done?âÂ
Tubbo smiled back. âYep! Weâre gonna go hang out in my room for a bit. Can we have a plate of food for the borrowers?â
âOf course.â Puffy stood up and served up another plate, handing it over to Tubbo. âYou two have fun.â
âWe will!â Tubbo said before grabbing Tommyâs arm with his free hand and pulling him out of the kitchen.
The two adults watched them go with grins on their faces. âIâm so happy they seem to be getting along.â Phil said.
âI knew they would.â Puffy said back. âI think the two of them are going to be great friends.â
***
Ranboo and Sapnap were showing him Ranbooâs little hidden room when he heard the bedroom door open and a voice. âSapnap?â Dream called out and Wilbur watched as Sapnap perked up. He turned towards Wilbur.Â
âCome on, they must be done with dinner.â Sapnap and Ranboo exited the room and Wilbur followed close behind. He was still a bit wary of the human, so he stayed further back as Sapnap ran right up to him. Dream kneeled down on the floor and Sapnap practically threw himself into his hands.
âWhereâs Tubbo? And, uh, Tommy?â Ranboo asked, closer to Dream than Wilbur was.
âTheyâre downstairs still but theyâll be up in a second with some dinner for you guys.â Dream said before his eyes wandered until they met Wilburâs gaze. Wilbur flinched and Dream bit his lip.
âHey, uh, sorry about earlier. I know you probably didnât like me staring at you and stuff.â Dream apologized sheepishly. Wilbur blinked, a bit thrown off by the fact that Dream had even noticed his discomfort in the first place.
âOh, uh, itâs fine.â Wilbur shrugged, not meeting Dreamâs eyes. He wasnât used to being around humans who werenât Tommy.Â
Dream nodded and then lifted Sapnap up to better see him. âSo, what have you guys been doing?â
âWeâre just showing him around. We were just in Ranbooâs room when you came in.â Sapnap explained. âHow did the talk with Tommy go?â
Wilbur tensed as Sapnap asked the question and waited with baited breath as Dream opened his mouth the answer. Part of Wilbur didnât want to know, in fear of the wrong reaction but the other part of him, the bigger part, needed to know.
âWell-â But Dream was cut off when the door opened up again, showing Tubbo and Tommy at the door holding a plate of food.Â
âDinner!â Tubbo shouted with a grin and went to sit down on the floor and place the plate down. Tommy stayed standing, looking awkward as he closed the door behind him.
Wilbur couldnât help but overanalyze everything. Tommy seemed awkward and maybe a bit upset but Tubbo and Dream seemed perfectly fine. Was that an indication that the talk went well? But then why was Tommy upset? So many questions and Wilbur just wanted answers. But try as he might, Tommy seemed to be avoiding Wilburâs gaze.
He felt a hand on his shoulder and tensed before realizing it was just Ranboo. Ranboo looked at him with a small smile and motioned over towards the plate of food, which Sapnap had already started to eat. âCome on, if we donât hurry there wonât be anything left.â
âHey, I heard that!â Sapnap yelled and Ranboo chuckled as they made their way over to the plate. Wilbur went ahead and grabbed a piece of chicken to munch on but he didnât have a very big appetite at the moment. Not when he couldnât stop worrying about how the talk went.
âSo, Wilbur!â Tubbo suddenly said, causing Wilbur to jump. He looked up to see Tubbo smiling down at him. âHow did you like Ranbooâs room? Him and I put it together ourselves.â
Wilbur hummed, thinking back on the room. His thoughts were jumbled and so it took a second to get them in order. âOh, uh, it was really cool. I liked it.â And that was true, Wilbur actually really liked the room.Â
âCool! Maybe if you decide to stay with Tommy I can help you guys build one for you!â Tubbo exclaimed and then was immediately elbowed by Dream, who was giving him a look. Tubbo looked confused for a moment before his face went red and he looked sheepish. âOh, um, I meanâŚjust-just ignore what I said.â
But Wilbur was already too far into his thoughts to even hear the last thing Tubbo said. What did that mean, if he decided to stay with Tommy? What was going on?
A groan filled the room and Wilbur looked up to see Tommy rubbing a hand over his face. He looked over to Tubbo who looked away. âSorry, Tommy.â
Tommy sighed. âItâsâŚfine.â And for the first time since stepping foot back into the room, Tommy met Wilburâs eyes. Wilbur couldnât help but be surprised at the amount of emotion within Tommyâs gaze. It was still hard to pinpoint exactly how Tommy was feeling but one emotion that got through wasâŚsadness. But why was Tommy sad?
âTommy? Are you okay?â He couldnât help but ask. Despite being worried about how the talk went, despite how it did go, Wilbur still cared about Tommy and hated seeing him like this.Â
Tommy seemed to tense at his question and he rubbed at his arm like he was nervous. âIâŚactually thatâs sort of what IâŚneed to talk to you about.â Tommy got out and Wilbur froze.
âWhat do you mean?â Wilbur asked but inside he couldnât help but wonder if this was it. He was finally going to know how the talk went. How Tommy reacted to it. But still, that was a weird way to start this kind of conversation.
Tommy kneeled down in front of Wilbur and met his eyes again. He looked sad, remorseful, and determined all in one and it was confusing Wilbur as to why. âWilbur, I-â
âTommy! Itâs time to go, itâs getting late!â Phil yelled from downstairs, effectively cutting Tommy off. Tommy was left floundering for a second before he turned his head towards the door.
âBut dad! Canât we stay a little bit longer?!â Tommy yelled somewhat desperately. Wilbur winced a little at the volume and noticed how Ranboo and Sapnap did the same. Even though Wilbur was more used to it at this point, Tommy could still be a bit too loud at times.
âSorry Toms! But I have to wake up early for work tomorrow! Now come on down!â Phil yelled back and Tommy bit his lip, sharing looks with Tubbo and Dream.Â
âI guess I have to goâŚâ Tommy said. He was still kneeled down in front of Wilbur as Tubbo placed a hand on his shoulder.
âItâll be okay. Youâve got this.â Tubbo said, but Tommy looked as though he didnât quite believe him. Wilbur was still confused about what was happening. Clearly Tommy had been about to say something, probably about the talk he had with the other humans. But it looked like that conversation was now going to have to wait until they got home. Which only prolonged Wilburâs anxiety.
Tommy let out a sigh and held his hand out for Wilbur to climb onto. Wilbur did so with little hesitation, having done this hundreds of times since being with Tommy. But something was different about this time. When Tommy lifted him up, his hand stayed flat instead of curling around Wilburâs frame.Â
It was strange, but not entirely unwelcome.
Tommy stood, adding his other hand next to Wilbur so Wilbur was now cupped between his two hands. He looked at the other two humans in the room. âI, uh, I guess Iâll see you around? Maybe?â
He seemed nervous but that went away when Tubbo grinned wide at him. âYeah! Youâll have to come over again soon. Or I could go over to your place!â
Wilbur glanced up at Tommy, who was smiling for the first time since coming back into the room. âY-Yeah, that sounds like a plan.â
Wilbur couldnât help but smile a bit as well. He knew how lonely Tommy was. That was the whole reason Wilbur was with Tommy in the first place. The whole reason he decided to stay despite Tommy still seeing him as a pet. He related too much to the kid. But now, it seemed like he finally had a friend.
âBye Tommy!â Tubbo yelled as Tommy started to walk out into the hallway. âAnd remember, you got this!â
Wilbur heard Tommy chuckle as they made their way back downstairs. Phil was there, waiting by the door as he finished up talking to Puffy. When he saw Tommy, he smiled. âHey Toms, did you have fun?â
Tommy hesitated but nodded and Philâs smile grew wider. âIâm glad! Weâll have to set up another time you and Tubbo can hang out.â
Tommy nodded and they said bye to Puffy and then headed out to the car. Tommy got in on the passenger side and placed his hands holding Wilbur in his lap. He hadnât looked at Wilbur this whole time, at least, not in the eyes. He glanced down every now and again, probably to make sure he was secure before quickly moving his gaze back up.
As Phil got in and started the car, Wilbur couldnât help but feel nervous about the talk they would inevitably have when they got back home.
I thinking specifically in your puppeteer au but really any with tiny! Gnf and Sapnap itâs really funny that those are the only two names we get so we donât know which one actually has a weird name in context
Haha thatâs true, yeah! We donât really know which is a more normal borrower name, George or Sapnap. Iâd say theyâre both normal for different reasons because some borrowers might use human names and some might use different names. However, it probably really depends on where you live. Outdoor tinies might find Georgeâs name odd, while to indoor borrowers Sapnapâs name is probably a little bit weird.
Itâs kinda funny though lol I can imagine Dream being like âSapnap, your nameâs a bit weirdâ and Sapnap just laughs and is like âexcuse me? Georgeâs is so much weirder!â while Dream just stares at him all confused
"In my defense, I was left unsupervised." Maybe tiny Sapnap with George and Dream? Either they're both human/giant or one of them is also small. (This is giant-tiny-squid's main blog btw)
Sorry this took so long! I hope you like it! Sorry itâs short!

---------------- Left Alone -----------------
âIâm glad you felt comfortable enough to meet Wilbur,â George shifted Dream from cupped palms into one hand as he fished for his keys with his free hand. He slid the key into the doorâs lock and pushed the door open, walking up the stairs. âSo anyway, I was just-â
The borrower looked up from his place in Georgeâs hand as his human friend cut himself off abruptly. âGeorge, whatâs... oh.â
He understood immediately as they walked into view of the kitchen, where he could make out a fluffy black mop of hair amongst the mess. All on the counters were packages of crackers and chips, one of which was open and spilling out on the counter.
âSapnap, what the fuck?!â George crossed the room quickly, voice irritated as he placed Dream down onto the counter near Sapnap, nudging the latter with a finger. Dream appreciated the gentle nature despite the obvious annoyance. It wasnât much, but it made Dream feel a lot better about his decision to befriend the human.
âHey!â Sapnap batted at the finger and took a step away, grin wide and mischievous as he stared up at the human. âIn my defense, I was left unsupervised.â
âYou said you didnât want to go!â
âYou did say that.â Dream affirmed, shifting his weight and leaning back against a nearby sugar container.
âWell, I- Okay, yeah, you got me there...â Sapnap grumbled, shooting a look at the scattered items on the counter. âBut! I got hungry. And Dream has been so buddy-buddy with you that he hasnât been borrowing like he used to!â
The smile he shot Dream let him know that he was teasing, but it still made him feel guilty. He had been spending a lot of time with George since the human had discovered him. He had been skittish at first, shying away from any of the humanâs movements.Â
But Georgeâs soft-spoken words and gentle kindness were enough to win him over. It wasnât long before the two had begun to bantered back and forth, and he had mostly lost any fear of the human. Sapnap, on the other hand, had been unafraid since day one.Â
Thatâs what he said anyway.
âThat doesnât mean you get to make a huge mess in the kitchen.â George reached over Dream for paper towels, taking one with a soft ripping sound. Dream was thankful that the human decided not to comment on the way he ducked away at the fast movement.
Yeah, most of that fear was gone, but quick movements still caught him by surprise.
As George mopped up excess water from the side of the sink, Sapnap let out another loud laugh.
âServes you right for stealing my best friend, you British bastard.â
George scoffed and shook his head slightly, dropping the slightly damp paper towel on the borrower, the latter sputtering and spitting out curses. âAnd this is for being a disaster, you little fiend.â
The two of the looked over at Dream, who was doubled over with his signature wheeze laugh. The banter between all of them had been a key part in all of the friendships theyâd formed with each other.
âYouâre both idiots.â The affectionate smile on his face only grew as Sapnap hurled the damp paper towel at the human/s face. It connected and slid slightly, falling back to the counter with a soft plop. âLetâs just get this cleaned up and then we can supervise Sapnap while we watch a movie.â
