🎬🇵🇷 Part 1 #PuertoRicans are a mixture of several racial and cultural groups, the dominant blend being African, Spanish, and Taíno...As it relates to the definition of #AfroLatino #AfroLatina I like to reference 📗The Afro-Latin@ Reader: History and Culture in the United States 📔 by co-editors, Dr. Miriam Jiménez Román and Dr. Juan Flores. The term Afro-Latino/a refers to “people of #African descent in Mexico, Central and South America, and the Spanish-speaking Caribbean, and by extension those of African descent in the United States whose origins are in Latin America and the Caribbean.” These are #Latinos “of visible OR self-proclaimed African descent.” When we originally released this video, this caused some controversy...the "self-proclaimed African descent" part of the definition. But I (Rebecca) love this part because it captures so beautifully the people we meet around the country and those who share their stories with us. ***Tap link in bio to watch the full video (this is only a snippet).
