honestly I genuinely believe that what happened with this season is the writers read the book, gave themselves the documentary premise, but then for some reason, somehow, convinced themselves that there is literally no way lestat would talk about damn near any of the events of the book of his own volition (despite, yknow, the book its self should be proof of quite the opposite being true), and then got themselves stuck in a hole of Trying to figure out how to get Some of the events on the page without just letting lestat willingly share a detail of his life or about himself to anyyyybody. which as a result just means they write fuck all of the book events and excuse it away with "oh we can just focus on the modern plot, its fine" (but its not bc the modern plot is not interesting or well enough written to be the Main focus of the season)
