A fun fact about the comic, I had originally scrapped Snowflower from the storyline as neither his character and death contributed to anything of importance. In-game, he just showed up and died a couple of moons later without doing anything note-worthy. However, thereâs going to be some events occurring 100 moons or so from now that helped make him relevant :)!
To give some context on Snowflowerâs backstory: heâs the self-proclaimed leader of a group of strays unaffiliated with the clans. Unbeknownst to the clans before TallClanâs birth, he and his group used to reside in the territory surrounding the mountain that TallClan now calls its home. When TallClan made their appearance, they were quite displeased by this.
Snowflowerâs plan was to infiltrate the place and upon discovering there was an hierarchy in place, he made an attempt to bring it down and take control of the clan for himself. The dog attack on Icystar was actually his attempt to get rid of her, but it unfortunately backfired when the dog he used turned on him as well.

It has only been a moon since TallClan was founded. A moon since they made their camp on the side of Starsâ Peak. As a newborn clan with so little cats, clan life was uneventful and tasks were completed fairly quickly, leaving the cats to their own devices for what was left of the day. Many retreated back to their dens for rest, while others stayed in the clearing to talk amongst themselves as they bathed in the warmth of the spring sun.
Deep inside the leaderâs den, Icystarâs mind could not rest. Through the entrance of her den, she looked out into the clearing. Her eyes were focused on the clanâs only apprentices, Bonepaw and Marigoldpaw. More specifically, on Bonepaw, the oldest of the two.
âSomething on your mind?â
Icystar snapped out of her thoughts as her mate and deputy, Sapflow, walked into the den and took a seat beside her, resting his tail on her shoulder.
âDaydream wants us to conduct a warrior assessment for Bonepaw now that heâs 12 moons old. She says that heâs ready, but Iâm not sure. I was hoping we could hold it back for the next moon or two.â, Icystar explained. Her attention was still set on Bonepaw.
Sapflow looked at her in surprise. âWhy? The clan needs as many warriors as it can get.â
âI know that, but you and Daydream donât know Bonepaw like I do. Ever since he was a kit, heâs been highly strung. I was hoping that age would toughen him up, but heâs still the same! Our clanâs warriors should be confident and daring! How will the other clans perceive us if the first warrior I welcome is nervous and insecure?â The end of Icystarâs reasoning started to sound more like a rant as frustration and anxiety took over her mind.
While none of the leaders of the other clans were vocally against StarClanâs will to form TallClan, she saw doubt in their eyes. How could a clan survive in a mountain that had claimed the lives of so many before them? How could they be expected to protect the former sacred grounds of StarClan from rogues if their warriors werenât up to the task? As the cat who had received the message from StarClan, Icystar had a lot to prove.
âWell, you want to know what I think? Thereâs more to being a warrior than being quick to launch into action without a second thought. What Bonepaw lacks in confidence, he makes up for with his teaching skills,â Sspflow began to advise, âJust look! Marigoldpaw and all the other cats that came from the forest and the field have adjusted well into living in the mountains and itâs all thanks to Bonepaw! Heâs passing down what heâs learned being born here.â
When Icystar didnât answer at first, he added, âPlus, heâs done a great job adapting to this big change. If you ask me, leaving his birth clan to start a completely new one is very brave of him to do at such a young age. Heâs the sort of warrior we need to ensure our clanâs future generations prosper.â
His words held the truth. One that Icystar couldnât deny even if she wanted to. âYouâre right,â she said, before letting out a sigh, âIâm sorry. Iâm just so nervous about all of this⌠I have a lot to prove. Not only to the others, but to StarClan themselves. Iâm worried that if I make a mistake, theyâll regret ever entrusting me with this important task.â
Sapflowâs ears perked as she began opening up to him. Icystar was hardly one to be vulnerable in front of someone else, including him. Sure, they were mates, but that was more of a conventional matter. Icystar needed a deputy. Someone to help her guide the clan and to provide heirs with. Since it was his ancestor that delivered StarClanâs message to her and was the clanâs Spiritual Guide, he seemed like the most obvious choice.
âYou know, no one is perfect for this job and no one will ever be,â Sapflow reassured her, âIâm sure StarClan knows this and they wonât fault you for any mistakes you make along the way. They chose you for a reason and it must be a good one.â
For the first time since he arrived, Icystar looked at him. It was hard to read her expression and for a moment, he wondered if he said the wrong thing⌠That is until she smiled at him. A smile that he hadnât seen since the time they were GlintClan apprentices.
âWere you always this good with words?â she said, light-heartedly, âI donât remember you ever being this wise!â
Sapflow felt his face flush and he looked away. âOf course! Otherwise, I wouldnât be your deputy now, would I?â Internally, he cringed at his words, but Icystarâs giggles put him at ease.

Later that day, before the sun sets, a warrior assessment was held for Bonepaw. Just as his mentor, Daydream, had predicted, he passed with flying colors! With their ancestors looking over them, Icystar was proud to welcome Bonebracken as TallClanâs first warrior! Heâs honored for his efficiency. He has gone from insecure to nervous. Heâs grown to be a good teacher!

Icystar and Mulberrystripe, TallClanâs Lead Healer, have been best friends ever since their days as apprentices when the only times they could really interact with one another was during the Gatherings. Now that theyâre in the same clan, they spend the majority of their free time together.
As summer continues to drag on, Scrubpelt has detected the scent of intruders entering TallClanâs territory. This isnât uncommon in the area, but now that thereâs a clan occupying the territory, it has to be nipped in the bud! Bonebracken and Marigoldflip are told to be on the lookout for any suspicious activity while they patrol the border. Nothing has shown so far and unfortunately, the unbearable heat makes the patrol utterly boring! They gossip to pass the time!
At the age of 15 moons old, Bonebracken is killed by a gang of rogues. A search party finds his body stiff and cold to the touchâŚ
Story underneath the cut!
Summer continued to drag on in the valley and life continued to be as boring as usual in the clan. That is until Scrubpelt caught the scent of intruders crossing into TallClanâs territory. This was to be expected. It wasnât uncommon to see loners, rogues, and travelers passing through this part of the valley or making temporary camp here. However, that was back then when Starsâ Touch was a neutral territory between the clans. Now that a clan has settled down in the area, that would not be tolerated anymore.
Border patrols now had only one motive in mind: chase out anyone who shouldnât be here.
This time, it was Marigoldflipâs and Bonebrackenâs turn to patrol the border and so far, it has been dreadfully boring. No one has caught a whiff of intruders to the point that Marigoldflip wondered whether Scrubpelt had been mistaken. The senior warrior was really old now. Perhaps his age was starting to show. âOr maybe heâs always been bad at distinguishing tracks.â, she jokingly thought to herself.
Gossip was the only thing that helped kill time and fortunately for her, she had a lot to share. Well, most of it came from Scrubpelt. He had a lot to say about the comings-and-goings of their leader, deputy, and healer. Heâs been yapping about it to any cat who would listen in the past moon or two. Everything Marigoldflip had been told was against her own free will, since no one stayed around long enough and Scrubpelt hardly bothered with Bonebracken. She had only been the older tomâs âapprenticeâ for the last moon of her training, but she guessed that was enough to get in his good graces. Only pro she found of this is that it made clan life more eventful.
âAnd that is whatâs been going on between Icystar and Sapflow. Or what Scrubpelt believes at least.â
âOh, thatâs interestingâŚâ That was all that Bonebracken said. His eyes were glued to the ground before them.
The two continued to walk. Unfortunately, in awkward silence.
âSo, what do you think?â
âOh? Uhm,â he stuttered as he searched for words, clearly caught off guard that Marigoldflip cared about his opinion, âI-I donât really focus on stuff like that. Oh! W-werenât you Mulberrystripeâs apprentice? Y-You know, when she was still a warrior? Have you talked to her about⌠all that?â
Now she was the one who didnât know what to say. Her silence worried Bonebracken and he began to mumble an incoherent apology for stepping over a personal line.
âN-No, itâs okay! Donât apologize!â Marigoldflip reassured him. âI needed a few seconds to think. Now that you mentioned it, I never thought about asking her. I-I donât think I will, though. Sheâs been busy lately and so have I. Only times Iâve interacted with her so far since we came here is whenever Iâm feeling ill or if she needs my help.â
Some of that was half of the truth. To be honest, Marigoldflip was avoiding her as best she could. The young cat hated to admit it, but she was still hurt that her former mentor had eagerly chosen to leave LogClan behind for TallClan. She didnât even think about the apprentice she had spent so long training and bonding with. Had Marigoldflip not followed after her, she knew sheâd be a quick forgotten memory. Perhaps thatâs the reason why she has been tolerating Scrubpeltâs claims for so long. How could a cat so easily leave behind the clan they were born in and their family if not for something greaterâ love.
She didnât want to think about this anymore.
âAnyway, enough about them! Tell me about you and Bluegale!â
âW-What?â Bonebracken replied, dumbfounded. His eyes darted around anxiously, as if expecting the mentioned Lead Mediator to show up at any moment.
âDonât act dumb! Iâve seen how close youâve two been lately! Youâre practically prancing around her every day! And it looks like she enjoys your company too!â She teased.
Bonebrackenâs face looked flustered.
âSo? What about it? Any chance thereâs going to be kits in the nursery?â
That was enough to get him to burst! Tripping over his words, he began to bashfully rebuke her claims, âH-Hey! Itâs n-not like that! I donât l-like her! I-I mean, I do! B-Butâ grah! Y-you know what I mean!â
Marigoldflip rolled her eyes. She opened her mouth, but before she could say anything, thatâs when she smelled it. âWait! Do you smellââ
âAHHH!!!â
Bonebrackenâs petrified scream cut her off. She followed his trembling, horrified gaze down to a rocky ditch their path was leading them to. Down below, propped against a boulder, was a cat, scarred and bloody all over. Without hesitation, Marigoldflip sprinted down the stone incline that led into the ditch to inspect the mauled stranger.
âA-Are they a-alive?â She heard Bonebracken whimpered, still frozen in place from where he stood.
Just as he said that, the cat wheezed and gurgled what resembled a grunt. It was then that Marigoldflip realized what exactly she was looking at. The cat wasnât just propped against the boulder. Their whole face was smashed against it and to her utmost horror, their lower jaw was hanging loosely.
âGo get Mulberrystripe!â She yowled.
Bonebracken flinched, taken aback by the ferocity of her tone. He hesitated. His trembling body still stuck in place.
âGet Mulberrystripe!! NOW!!!â Marigoldflip ordered again, much harsher this time. Her claws dug at the ground, ready to push herself out of the ditch and fetch Mulberrystripe herself if Bonebracken didnât move. Fortunately, he turned tail and ran. And that was the last time she saw him.
â
When help didnât arrive as fast as she wouldâve liked, Marigoldflip carried the injured cat on her back, similar to how one would give kits badger rides. If anything, she wished it couldâve been just like that. Although the adrenaline coursing through her body was the one thing that kept her standing, she could feel her aching legs trembling under the weight of the adult cat on her back. It didnât help that the sun was burning down on them and all of her senses were clogged by the smell of blood.
She cursed Bonebrackenâs name with what little strength she had left to speak. That foolish tom! She could already envision what mustâve happened when he arrived back in camp. He was too distraught for words. All he could say in between his ugly sobbing was just word vomit. At least his distress would send a patrol out looking for her and she was hopeful she would bump into them soon.
She shouldâve known something was wrong when her arduous trek finally came to an end at the entrance of camp, where everyone was peacefully enjoying the last of the sunâs warmth before it set for the day. The panic and urgency only set in when they noticed who she brought with her. Her body and mind were too tired for her to notice that something was amiss and everyone else was too caught up in this new development in their relatively boring lives to notice it as well. It wasnât until nighttime when the stranger was well-bandaged up, finally receiving the medical attention she needed, and Marigoldflip was explaining her unusual findings to Icystar when they realized.
âAnd Bonebracken? Where is he? I havenât seen him since you two left on patrol this afternoon.â
Marigoldflipâs heart dropped.
âW-What do you mean? I-Is he not here?â
â
Maybe it wouldâve been best if Marigoldflip had been the one to get help. Or maybe not. He wouldnât have been able to live with the guilt if she died in his place. Then again, she wasnât him. She wouldnât have gotten lost in the territory, too petrified by fear and shock to see where she was going. Everything would have worked out in the end.
What would Daydream think of him? His heart ached when he suddenly remembered his former mentor. Sure, she only trained him during the last days of his apprenticeship and they hardly knew each other before that, but she had been the only cat in his life who truly believed in him without a doubt. Was she going to be mad? Ashamed? He sure knew that everyone back in GlintClan wouldnât be surprised this was his end.
âBonebracken?â
He flinched upon hearing his name. He didnât know who was behind him, but he could guess why she was hereâ to guide him to StarClan. He didnât turn around to face her. He didnât want to.
âItâs time to go, dear.â
Tears fell from his cheeks, falling and vanishing into the pool of blood that laid in front of him. Just a few inches away laid his body, covered in several battle wounds, from head to toe. All the blood was coming out from a wound in his neck, the fatal blow.
âC-Can y-you give m-me just a f-few m-more minutes? P-Please?â He pleaded through his sobbing. âO-Or a-at least un-until s-someone gets h-here? I-I donât want to l-leave m-me-my body here. I-Iâm sc-scared n-no oneâs going to f-find me. C-canât I-I send t-them a message or lead them h-here?â
The sound of pawsteps could be heard heading their way. The usually quiet night air was interrupted by the sound of several cats calling out his name. Daydreamâs stood out in particular.
âYou donât have to worry about that.â, the voice reassured him.
Now that he knew that his body wouldnât be left undiscovered, the idea of staying here any longer made him anxious. He didn't want to see how everyone else would react. He wouldnât be able to handle it. Especially not Daydreamâs or even Marigoldflipâs reactions. He hoped the latter wouldnât blame herself or be too mad with him. Taking a deep breath, he closed his eyes, and turned around.

[And thus, the clan suffers their first death. Itâs ironic it happened to be the first warrior đ! I wasnât particularly attached to Bonebracken in-game, since he died so early within the first year and apart from his death, he didnât do much. Only thing that stood out when he was alive was him developing feelings for Bluegale. Plus, I really liked his design! I was hoping he could leave behind some descendants đ However, it was fun giving his character a bit more depth via writing and drawing!]
Despite Mulberrystripeâs best efforts, the infection was just too much for her patient and the she-cat, whose name will be never known to the clan, passes away.
Although she wasnât a part of the clan for long, Icystar didnât think it would be right of them to bury her in an unmarked grave outside of clan territory. She deserved better than that.

I like to think that Daydream was holding out hope that Ant would survive, but now that sheâs dead, she canât help but feel that Bonebracken died for nothing :,) Anyway, this is the last moon youâll see from me in a while as Iâll be working on finishing the last of TallClanâs lore for the Lore Masterpost and Iâll be working on Moon 0!
đ Does your clan have any specific traditions, rituals, or holidays? And âď¸ Who is the best and worst fighter in the clan?
đ - Most of what I had in mind was answered in CULTURE and LEAD POSITIONS, but here are some that I have thought of since then!
Leader Titles - Leaders receive special titles after their deaths, which usually pertain to their character throughout their leadership. Hereâs an example from my first attempt at doing the dynasty challenge! These titles arenât just restricted to leaders. Lead Healers and Lead Mediators receive similar titles and on rare occasions, a notable warrior will receive a title.
Celebrations of a Leaderâs Life + The Clanâs Founding Anniversary - Considering how important leaders are to the clan, their lives and what they contribute are celebrated on the anniversary of their deaths underneath the stars. In Icystarâs case, by some sheer luck of coincidence, her death fell on the anniversary of the clanâs founding! So, along with her celebrating her life, the clanâs anniversary is also celebrated!
Cave paintings - While I was still brainstorming certain cultures and traditions for the clan, the original burial place was catacombs in which graves were marked with paintings to identify the cat that was buried there. Even though that isnât the original plan anymore, I still like the idea about the paintings! Now, paintings are used to record historical events, lessons, maps, battle plans, and important figures. A leader, Lead Mediator, and Lead Healer will always leave behind their own paw print in their respective dens. Warriors and apprentices do something similar on the days of their ceremonies with warriors in particular leaving a mark on the camp entrance on the night of their vigil. These paintings are also used to keep track of family trees, but it might become a bit muddled after several generations.
Art featured under cut for second question! â ď¸CW: Depictions of blood and violence!â ď¸
âď¸ - The best fighter in the clan is Mulberrystripe! She was one of LogClanâs best fighters (and warriors in general) before leaving to become a healer. Despite her new position, she still keeps her fighting skills up to shape and has plans to teach these same skills to any apprentices + heirs she has in the future!
The only other cat that gives her a run for her money is Marigoldflip! Which makes sense, because she used to be her warrior apprentice. Plus, with her fierce nature, this makes Marigoldflip a force to be reckon with.
As for the cat whoâs the worst fighter, I feel bad about saying this due to his fate, but Iâd like to imagine it was Bonebracken đ Heâs never been the fighting type and that was the one thing he struggled with a lot as an apprentice. He much rather preferred hunting and helping around in camp.
Now that heâs gone, the worst fighter title has been given to Bluegale. Sure, sheâs a mediator, but I like to imagine cats who chose the path of a mediator at the start of their apprenticeships are given some level of battle training, just in case! It becomes a âno excusesâ requirement after a certain event later in the future.
When it comes to the warriors only, Iâd say itâs a tie between Icystar and Sapflow. Theyâre compatible fighters by most clan standards, but I imagine the sleep deprivation from both of their current sleeping arrangements causes performance issues sometimes.
