A scene from Borikas interlude in postmortem (thank you @furiosophie for creating that masterpiece of a fanfic, we all owe 5 million pieces of fanart to you for it). Her and Bomarmo are incredibly charming and their interactions burned themselves a place in my brain. Tortured war people, my favorite flavor of characters. Them slowly falling in love? Borika desiring to claim something as her own even if it was imposed by the people previously controlling her life?? Her and Bomarmo figuring out how to be normal civilian people living a life when they never got to even be children??? insane, heart-wrenching, rolling to my side in a gasp of emotional constipation inducing.
but also they're just lovely and sweet and deserve the world, the world does not deserve them
i must say, the cursed positioning of how he was sewing her leg made me think for a bit. Fortunately I've been blessed with an experience of having my own leg sewn up (there was no anesthetic involved, not a great time) so i at least had an inkling of what would be the easiest option for him to access the wound. I apologize for the lackluster portrayal of blood, i do not know how exactly it would locate itself, but i took the "covered in blood" thing literally and it might even be believable.

Some nights she catches her reflection in the viewport, red eyes staring back at herself like glowing embers and wonders why sheâs never met another sky-walker outside the program, if it would be easier if she were to walk away from it all, fade into obscurity.
But then, in the end, what she always arrives back at is this â she doesn't know what else to do with herself, then to keep traveling the Chaos, then to keep looking, to keep hoping to find the parts she lost between the stars, to make it give her back what it took in its wake.

Thrawn learns about the life his sister lead without him.
POST¡MOR¡TEM // excerpts from senior commander cohbo'rik'ardokâs private journal of cataloged memoriesÂ
tags: angst with a hopeful ending, hurt/comfort, canon typical violence, mostly bc borika is a badass, but also bc everything is pretty fucked out in the chaos, doctor!bomarmo, spy!borika, actually they are both as integral to the story as thrawn and thrass and i wrote 22k to prove it, epistolary elements, borika pov, background thranto & thamakro just so it doesn't hit you out of nowhere, goes directly into postmortem file 03

I was infodumping to my sister about chiss names today and I am now very interested in how chiss family names work in the context of marriage
Letâs take Borika (Thrawnâs sister) for example;
As far as we know, Borkia had four names during her life time,
Kivu'rik'ardok (Vurika, in her first family), Rikâardok (as a Skywalker), Iriziârikâardok (Zirika, in the Irizi), and last but not least, Cohboârikâardok (Borika, after her marriage to Bomarmo)
As we can see, Borika took her husbandâs family name, Cohbo. The question is, why.
There are a few possible answers that I thought about. The first one (and the one I think is most likely) is that as a non blood member of the Irizi family (which is one of the nine ruling families), Borika couldnât have brought someone into the family, so she âhadâ to join the Chobo family when she married Bomarmo. The second answer (that is a bit fanon) is that Borika just didnât want to be a part of the Irizi family anymore, so she decided to join the Cohbo family. My last answer (and the most disappointing one if itâs the canon answer) is good olâ patriarchy, and that as a woman, borika had to (according to societal standards) join the Cohbo family.Â
Also, is there divorce in the chiss ascendancy? And if so, what happens if you joined your partnerâs family and you divorce them? Can a person be family-less if they arenât part of the military (or a sky-walker)?

Gen Ascendancy sounded so fun, and I wanted to do something for it, but writing was really hard this week so this is pretty much all I've got. I have other ideas floating around, we'll see what happens.
First off, Bomarmo and Che'ri for birdwatching (kinda). (also "Cohbo'mar'molade" isn't mine, that idea is courtesy @/dinjoyer, I just moved the apostrophe)
Cheâri sat down under the tree with a thud. She didnât want to explain everything to these people, she didnât want to keep track of her sleep and her food and her nightmares and her everything. She wanted to be back on the Springhawk, she wanted to be back with the crew and back with Thrawn and back flying again.
She winced. But that had gotten them in trouble, soâŚ
She looked out over the field. Same old field, same old packbulls, same same same. She let her head thunk back against the bark instead, and closed her eyes. Maybe she could at least get a nap in before Thalias or Borika came looking for her.
Less than five minutes later, she heard footsteps, and resisted the urge to groan. Not even five minutes? Really?
âI donât think youâre supposed to be out here alone,â a voice said. Cheâri startled. That was a manâs voice, not Borika or Thalias. She shot to attention, blinking quickly to try and adjust her eyes to see in the bright sunlight.
A sturdy man was standing a few meters away, giving her an amused look. She sighed in relief. Sheâd seen Borika talking to him sometimesâat least he wasnât a complete stranger. Sheâd be in so much trouble if she got seen by a stranger.
But she still didnât know who he was.
âWho are you?â
He took a couple steps closer as he answered. âCohboâmarâmolade. Bomarmo. Itâs nice to meet you.â
She watched him suspiciously as he continued to approach, stopping just a few feet away. Cohbo. Borika was a CohboâŚ
âIâve seen you talking to Borika sometimes.â
He smiled. âI should hope so, sheâs my wife.â
Cheâri blinked. Wâ Wife? Borika was married?
ââŚoh.â
He laughed. âThatâs alright. She doesnât exactly share much. Iâm the farmer here, thatâs where your cover story comes from. Borika helps occasionally, but Iâm the one maintaining the farm.â
Ohhh. She⌠really shouldâve figured that someone had to be keeping the packbulls and all the other farm things that made them not look suspicious. Thrawn wouldâve noticed.
âHey now, donât worry about it. Youâve got much more important things to worry about.â He pulled a face. âAnd speaking of, whatâs got you so wound? You seemed upset.â
Her eyes narrowed. She barely even knew him, he was just some guyâwell, he was Borikaâs husband⌠and he clearly knew about the project here if he was the cover storyâŚ
âI donât want to be here.â
He gave her a sad smile, and she scowled.
âDonât pity me! Iâm not a child, I donât need yourââ
âHey now, calm down. Iâm not pitying you, Iâm sympathizing. Iâve seen so many of you girls come here, and I know how hard it can be. Not to mention, Iâd like to think I know Bo pretty well, and she went through the same things you did.â
Cheâri words died in her mouth at his interruption. She sighed.
Heâs not the one Iâm mad atâŚ
âAlright, what do you like to do? Obviously I canât take you off the property, butââ
Cheâriâs eyes widened. âWait, you arenât going to go get Borika or Thalias to bring me back??â
He chuckled quietly. âNo. You deserve some time off, everyone does. Say, the Grand Migration is supposed to pass over soonânot all of it, Oolâs not on too many of the paths, but there should be a whole lot of guese flying overhead soon. What about you and me go up to the hill, and climb the tree there to watch?â
She stared at him. He⌠Sheâd met him not 5 minutes ago, hadnât even introduced herself, was breaking the rules, and he wanted⌠to take her birdwatching?
Also, birdwatching?
She made a face, and he laughed. âI know, itâs not the most exciting activity. But these arenât normal guese, theyâre rare. All sorts of fun colours, and thereâs sure to be a lot of them. Weâve lived here for years now, and Iâve always loved watching them fly overhead like some kind of rippling river of an abstract painting.â
Painting.
ââŚâŚâŚokay.â
He grinned, and she couldnât help but think how sheâd barely ever seen a grin like that before. Especially not on an adult, or an adult man. Samakro certainly didnât grin, and Thrawn barely even smiled. Samakro also didnât smile much, but that was usually âcause he was grumpy.
He offered her a hand up, and tentatively, she took it.
As they started to walk off toward the hill, she fiddled with the edge of her sleeve. âIâŚâ He glanced at her. âIâm Cheâri.â
