Saw clips of Bright Stream with no context. Was confused. I don't know what this ballet is about. Looked up the synopsis. Now I'm even more lost. There's a giant sunflower seed. There is a man dressed as a dog onstage. There is a random little girl. There is a woman in drag. There is also a man in drag, but specifically as the Sylph. The man dog is audibly barking onstage. There's a lot going on here.
You have 💯 nailed the absurdity of this ballet. I’ve seen the same clips as you, and I wondered if this version (by Ratmansky, I think) is a bit of a loving, tongue-in-cheek satire of the original which was a bit of a Soviet “we’re all happy” on the collective, working-man-hero vibe.
For the record, I haven’t seen either one in its entirety. But the clips are very entertaining!

In honour of the 250th anniversary of the Bolshoi Theatre, which has just passed, I present an absolute diamond of a video: Ludmila Ivanovna Semenyaka coaching a young Svetlana Zakharova and Nikolai Tsiskaridze for Marina Semenova's anniversary gala at the Bolshoi, 2003. All three ballerinas were trained in St. Petersburg and started their careers in Mariinsky/Kirov before joining the Bolshoi.
