Milind Soman Says Nobody Wants To Cast Me In Films

New Delhi : Supermodel-actor-fitness enthusiast Milind Soman says filmmakers do not cast him more often in their films perhaps because he does not have a good network in mainstream Bollywood.

Milind Soman told IANS. "Nobody wants to cast me in films, yes that is true. I do not know why, but that is the reality,"

He added."Once in a while, film offers come to me and I do that. I am interested in performance though... I like acting. It is a well-paid job and according to some people, I am good at it,"

Milind had famously featured in the music video "Made In India". He also featured in films like "Bheja Fry", "David", "Bajirao Mastani" and "Chef", along with some TV shows like "Captain Vyom", "Noorjahan" and "Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi x 3".

What is the reason behind such less visibility in films?

"I think people do not associate me with the mainstream... Only the urban people (maybe). I do not have friends and network with the commercial cinema world. In every business, the network is important," he explained.

Asked if there is any new filmmaker that he wishes to collaborate with, Milind said: "I do not know any of them. In fact, I do not watch films.

"Perhaps that is the potential reason why people do not cast me in the film. I am one of those people who love to act in the film but does not want to watch the film."

"I think in a year, I watch maximum three films, that too superhero films."

Mainstream Bollywood Has Largely Glorified Class Divide, Says Janhvi Kapoor

New Delhi: Jahnvi is set to make her debut with "Dhadak", the Hindi adaptation of critically-acclaimed Marathi film "Sairat" that explored the themes of caste divide and honour killing, and Janhvi Kapoor says the movie is a cut above mainstream Bollywood which has mostly "glorified" the conflict.

Janhvi, daughter of late actor Sridevi, says the Shashank Khaitan-directed film, in which she plays a girl belonging to the erstwhile royal family based in Udaipur, is set against the backdrop of class divide.

Janhvi, 21, says "Dhadak" is not a typical Bollywood saga that whitewashes the "harsh reality" that is still relevant.

"... I feel up until this point, a lot of films in mainstream Bollywood have glorified that divide. Because it creates a sort of conflict - that 'I can't live without the love of my life'. I feel they have glorified that divide a little bit.

"But I think, it should be condemned and with 'Dhadak', we have set out to condemn it. That it's a harsh reality. 'Dhadak' is not a Bollywood saga that ends with either the parents agreeing or typical, magnificent ending. It's an ugly truth," she told PTI in an interview.

Janhvi says for some reason, monetary value is often brought into the dynamics of love and emotion.

"We found that very strange," she adds.

The actor remembers discussing the class divide with Khaitan and says going into the film, it was a "pressing issue" to deal with.

"I remember Shashank and I talking about how classism is prevalent not only in the lesser-educated sections of the society but also in the well-educated strata," she says.

Janhvi says her character, Parthavi, is stronger than her real self.

Comparisons with Rinku Rajguru's Archie, the female lead of "Sairat" are unavoidable but the actor is already prepared herself for that.

"Archie's character was so inspiring to a lot of young girls. She didn't have to be saved. I'm fortunate to play Parthavi. She's also assertive like Archie, but a lot of that comes with her sense of pride and responsibility that she belongs to an effluent royal family," she says.

Her co-star Ishaan Khatter is relatively more experienced, having made his debut with Majid Majidi's "Beyond The Clouds" early this year but he never tried to impose.

"I feel one film is worth a number of experiences, not only as an artiste but also as an individual that helps you channel a plethora of emotions. It's only going to be good for me and the film. I know Ishaan has helped me react well on screen but he never tried to impose. I learnt a lot from him."

"Dhadak" releases this Friday.

Big B Says The Idea Of Story Telling Are So Impressive These Days

New Delhi: The veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan is appreciative of the idea of storytelling followed by the current crop of filmmakers in Bollywood.

He said, "The makings and the idea of story telling are so impressive these days that never before has there been an acceptance to the variety of films being made today. "

Big B wrote in his blog, "They are small and large budgeted, fantasy and real and they all have a value at the box-office".

The megastar says that Hindi film industry's time "right now" is good.

He added, "The times for the Industry are well. The audience has developed a tremendous taste for the good and the blatant bad and they express it in volumes.

"Competition is strong, makings are tedious and the creative ideas are the very best. A moment of pride in our little world -- a world that has always been the horse to be whipped but we are a strong world and we shall continue to survive and fight".

The 75-year-old cine icon s currently shooting for Ayan Mukerji's "Brahmastra", a trilogy co-starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. His next movie is  filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh's unnamed project, which will be shot in Scotland.

He wrote, "The preparations for the coming days loom large. In a couple, starts the large and expansive 'Brahmastra' and within days starts Sujoy Ghosh's in Scotland and the Ayan Mukerji's back again in Bulgaria"

Amitabh Bachchan who will be sporting a prosthetic make-up says, "Tomorrow is a torture. Prosthetic make-up for two film looks and trials. That sticky beard that extra beard that head locks and the lot. I thought I had had a lifetime of it but no, there is always more to come," he added.
