BOJNICE CASTLE - SLOVAKIA
Bojnice Castle is a large fortified building near the town of Bojnice, in Trenčín, Slovakia. Originally a wooden structure (11th century), in the 14th century it had been rebuilt in stone and was controlled by the Hungarian Crown. In the sixteenth century it was transformed into a Renaissance palace-castle thanks to the patronage of the Thurzós, while in the nineteenth century it was the Pálffys who renovated it according to the neo-Gothic romantic taste. Confiscated from private individuals after 1945 by the Czechoslovakian government, the castle is now a museum part of the Slovak National Museum. The majestic halls of the castle and its extraordinary architecture make it one of the sites that arouse the greatest interest in tourists visiting Slovakia.
