“I um- thank you for calling me.” He made his way to his room. “I um... I’ve been thinking about you a lot.”
Bucky made a strangled noise. “You have?”
“I um… I feel really bad. About running out on you before you left. I’m- I’m really sorry. It was just too much for me to handle. And I know that’s ridiculous. Because it was such a small thing but sometimes I-“
“Bob. Bob, it's okay. You don’t have to apologize.”
“Okay.” Bob took a breath. He felt braver this way. Not having to look Bucky in the eyes. Knowing that he wouldn’t have to see the other man for five more days. “Did you mean it?” He asked.
“Mean what?”
“That you’d miss me.”
“I-“ He would have thought the call disconnected but he could still hear Bucky’s breathing. “Of course I meant it Bob.”
“And… and do you miss me now?” Another long pause.
“Yes.” Bucky’s voice was quiet.
