Blind Boys of Alabama, Buddy Guy and Others Celebrate Another Day of Livin’ at Grammys
The Blind Boys of Alabama, Buddy Guy and the Yellowjackets’ Bob Mintzer stood on Rare Earth Feb. 5 during a pre-Grammys concert.
The veteran music-makers anchored a nominee-rich rendition of “I Just Want to Celebrate” before a large house band that was cooking. The Blind Boys took the first verse and guitarist Guy and sax man Mitzer both had featured solo spots between over-sung verses from La Marisoul, Maranda Curtis and Shoshana Bean, who fairly crowded out the old-school guys.
Allowing such a thing is exactly what one would expect from the Grammys.
A glass-half-full fan would nevertheless be grateful Guy, Mintzer and the Blind Boys of Alabama got their stage time.
But still …
