Castiel Novak has a love-hate relationship with the Cherryvale Small Business Ownerâs Association. Heâs already gained new clients since becoming a member, and made many valuable connections. Cherryvale isnât a big city by any means, nothing like Chicago. Still, itâs not exactly small town America, either.
Being the new owner of an accounting services firm requires that he reach out to the local business community. Since Cas is an Introvert with a capital âIâ, networking is high up on his list of things he detests. Still, he wants Novak Professional Accounting and Tax Services to be the first name other people think of when they need help with their books or taxes. The CSBOA seemed like the easiest and best way to accomplish that, so he started attending, and the organization has met all of his expectations.
So he has nothing but a healthy respect and appreciation for the Association itself.
His love/hate relationship is with his fellow members of the Association â namely one Dean Winchester, owner and operator of Winchester Automotive Repair and Restoration.
This story, my friends, is like a warm hug, like a cup of tea on a Sunday afternoon, like an evening spent in bed with a fluffy cat purring right beside you. Written for last yearâs round of the DCBB, Business (Not) As Usual tells a story of Castiel, a kind and adorably awkward accountant whoâs pining for Dean, a friendly mechanic. What starts as an acquaintanceship and monthly meetings of the Small Business Ownerâs Association, slowly turns into a sweet friendship full of burger dates, movie nights, and some hopeful pining. Castiel is absolutely adorable with his accountant nerdiness and one-sided conversations with his cat, and Dean is right up there with him, being his usual friendly, dorky, and charming self. A small cast of other characters, including, most notably, Charlie and Hannah, adds even more sweetness to the story. The author also dedicates a small fraction of the story to Deanâs financial matters, but itâs done in a way that even a complete layman wonât find boring or too complicated to understand. The entire thing is made even better with @dreymartâs amazing art. Itâs the best kind of slow burn that is just long enough to spend a lovely few hours on!

She chuckled. âOh, youâre a rascal, arenât you. Donât tell me. Sales.â
âIâm wounded. But yes. Sales.â
âI knew it.â She stood up. âCome with me; Iâll show you to the conference room where orientation will be held. Youâre the last to arrive, so you should be getting started soon.â
That was a bit alarming. âThe last? Iâm not late, am I?â
âNo, not at all. The others are just a little early.â
He followed Mildred around the corner to a room with a glass wall, with a large oblong table, and one wall covered with a whiteboard. There was a small projector on one end of the table, and the opposite wall was formed of windows with a view over the nearby river.
There were three people already in the room. âHi,â one of them said brightly â a young woman around his age, with red hair and a friendly smile. âIâm Charlie, nice to meet you!â
âHi, Charlie. Iâm Dean, nice to meet you too.â He chose a chair beside her, on the window side of the table. He never liked having his back to the door if he could help it.
Before the other two could introduce themselves, another person entered.
Holy. Shit. The guy was maybe an inch or two shorter than Dean, about his age, with dark brown hair, so dark as to nearly be black, styled in artful disarray. Either that or it had been styled more conservatively and he ran his hand through it so much that now it looked perfectly, deliciously mussed. He wore a navy suit with a blue striped tie and white shirt, none of which fit him all that well, but still managed to look good. His shoulders filled out the jacket nicely, and though the trousers were slightly baggy, it still looked like he had great legs.
Damn. It had been a while since Dean had noticed a guy like this.Â
âAnd this is Castiel,â Mildred said. âHeâll be doing orientation with you. Have a good time, and Iâm sure Iâll see you soon. Iâll usually be either the first face you see when you get here in the morning, or the last on your way out, depending on your hours.â She waved and left the room.
âHello,â he guy said. His voice was low and gravelly, the sort of voice that sent delicious tingles running down Deanâs spine. âIâm Castiel Novak, with Human Resources. Iâll be getting your paperwork squared away and running you through orientation.â

The last week of class was always challenging in high school. The kids had more and more trouble staying focused in class, so it was more and more challenging for Dean to capture and keep their attention. He couldnât really blame them. He remembered spring fever well from his own youth. Hell, he wasnât exactly immune now. He loved teaching, he really did, but summer vacation wasnât any less alluring now than it had been then.Â
 This was the last period of the day, and it was a gorgeous day out. So why were Krissy and Alex still in the classroom, instead of escaping like the rest of the kids had?Â
They were slowly putting their books and notes away, talking at the same time. Dean started paying more attention.Â
 âItâs really⌠I donât know. PBS shows are usually boring, but this one is cool,â Krissy said. âMy mom was watching it the other day. She thinks the host is hot. Like, ugh. Heâs too young for her. Too old for me, but too young for her. Heâs somewhere in his thirties, isnât he?âÂ
 âI think so. I havenât Googled it. But yeah, heâs hot. Those blue eyes! And when heâs out on location and the wind is blowing? It does things to his hair. Eye candy is definitely part of the appeal.â Krissy grinned.Â
 âHe definitely makes history interesting. And thatâs not easy,â Alex agreed, laughing.Â
Dean looked up from the front desk, giving up pretending he wasnât listening. âWhat show are you two talking about?âÂ
 âItâs this PBS show, about art and architecture and how it was both influenced by and influenced history and the culture of the time when it was created. Itâs kind of hard to explain, but itâs good. He travels all over the place. Europe, Asia, South America⌠and he talks about how certain symbols and themes appear in really different places but yet there are commonalities that speak to universal aspects of the human experience.âÂ
Dean smiled crookedly. âThat reminds me of a guy I knew way back when. History major, but he was interested in that sort of cross-discipline thing, too. How the events of the time were reflected in the styles of art and architecture and slowly evolved, and when they changed drastically due to contact with other cultures. He was really into it.âÂ
 âIf you like that kind of stuff you should watch it, Mr. W,â Krissy said. âItâs on tonight. âConnections with Castiel.ââÂ
Deanâs vision whited out and his shoulders tightened. With Castiel? Castiel?Â

im a sophomore in college and i never learned what a locus/loci is
well, the material that's taught in school differs a lot from country to country and even from school to school. sometimes it's done pretty early or pretty late or not at all! i guess the names for things are different, too.
i had a discussion about it recently actually (after i was surprised to see quadratic equations in teen wolf) and i found out that for example some people do quadratics in 9th grade and others only in 11th grade!
headcanon: spike from cowboy bebop is jet in the future. (there's a ton of kinks and technicalities that need to be worked out but yeah. they're the same person.)
Obviously what happened was when Jet "died" in A:tLA he actually got sent a couple hundred years in the future where Amon won and bending was completely gone and then he became a bounty hunter.
